Does it piss you off when . . .

I bought a new car, and every time i wash and detail it I find a new scratch, or paintchip. It pisses me off so bad that I don't want to detail my car anymore.

Does this happen to anyone else?

yep. I haven't washed my car in probably 2 months. Last summer I probably washed it every 2 days. And to boot, my gf never appreciates the hard work I put into keeping the car pristine, so I just let it slide and now it looks like a war wagon.

Many a day it seems like a losing battle. I guess sometimes there's nothing you can do about it.

As far as scratches/chips go, those could be from a number of things...technique, environment, etc.

Yes, it does. Mine is a DD, so it's just a matter of time before scratch and chip happens. I already got 2 chips, and it's not even 2 months yet. :hairpull

i wouldnt care about it that much...I had a cracked windshield from a rock on the freeway on the way home from the dealership...LOL - 2 hours old and BAM!!!

as for the washing...polishing every 3 months keeps me sane...I dont understand how people can spend 3 hours washing, when 1 hour of polishing will remove all the defects from washing, bring out more shine, and give you a new canvas for that new wax you want to try out...some people spend too much time trying to keep their car looking perfected even though its a DD

you keep show cars and garage queens perfected, not your DD. Your DD gets cleaned and protected, not perfected!

"Your DD gets cleaned and protected, not perfected!" toyotaguy

I'm going to have to remember that one.

it's inevitable. scratches, stone/rock chips, and other things you don't know how in the heck it got there are going to happen. all we can do is try to take care of it the best we can...

If someone can’t afford a show car (like my self), all I have is my DD. But I like to detail it. And yes I’m finding some scratches (mostly from parking lots, people don’t care). But I detail my DD for my own satisfaction, and not for “other people. If same day I will be able to afford a car that will sit in garage for most of the time my DD will be detailed anyway because I really think that you need to be born a true autopian, and then it doesn’t matter what you are detailing because you can make everything look good. Detailing for me isn’t a chore, it is what I enjoy to do. I apologize if I did offend anyone but autopia.org in my opinion is for people that love to maintain better that new car look. So don’t worry about new scratches, just try to improve yours techniques to minimalism the potential. But new scratches is just excuse that I give my wife, so she isn’t too mad when I spent a day whit my car (probably she will not be mad when I will start to detail her new car, she’s getting new MINI Cooper S today). :waxing:

+1 ^^^^^ but when you throw in OCD.......:sadpace:

It's depressing, but I've learnt to live with it. Where I live the roads are littered with debris, mainly small stones, so getting chips is unavoidable. Only solution would be to either not drive the car or wrap it up in a car cover with holes cut out to see through :D

Even then some rock would likely end up flying up and putting a chip on the front glass....

I used to wash my cars all the time. Now I have 3 cars to maintain, it's pretty hard to keep up, especially when the weather is crappy all the time. Instead of cleaning, I am resorted to weather watching. MMM, rain tomorrow, then sunny, then rain. Okay, I will put off washing till next week. Guess what, next week is the same weather pattern again. Rain one day, sunny the next, then chance of thunderstorm..blah blah blah. But I sure love the feeling of a nice clean car. Now I am off to snap some pictures of my cars. CIAO

You can always get this stuff, to prevent such unsightly mishaps.

The Clear Bra - Paint Protection

It'll protect the high impact sites of the car and I guess If you pay enough they can cover your entire car and you'll be protected from everything. Never wax again, but then some charlatan will always go, well that clear bra is delicate and needs protection from the elements, use this stuff to protect and maintain that just bra'd look lol.
