Does Dawn strip wax and SG or not?

Another thread got me thinking about this and save me some work. I put AIO and several layers of SG and then decide to put P21s on top, then after awhile I decide I want more layers of SG but of course can't apply it on top of carnauba. So does Dawn strip the wax and the Klasse or just the wax?

Really Dawn is not meant for washing vehicles. Why not use a light layer of AIO and then proceed with more SG. AIO probably will not remove all your SG.

Dan,

My own personal rule is that once I wax over SG I can't go back to adding SG. The only way to add more SG would be to strip the entire car down with AIO. I'm not sold on dawn as a paint cleaner. So make sure that you are totally happy with how your car looks before topping.

I would never use or advise to use Dawn as a wax stripper. it should stay in the kitchen where it belongs. If you dont want to use a paint cleaner to strip wax or a toxic smelling wax and grease remover than this what I use. A couple of ounces of P21S total auto wash mixed with water in a spray bottle does a great job of taking off the old wax and it is safe for any part of the vehicle. I also use it to clean my undercarraige and wheel wells. its great stuff. worth trying.

It works on reg wax. My friend put a little too much and it was stuck on hard. We couldn't polish it out, so we just dawn that area off because we didn't have anything else at the time.

You could use it in a pinch but I would not use dawn to strip wax on a regular basis. alot of detailers around here like to try different combos all the time so they are constantly stripping off the old wax. Polish will not take off old wax but a glaze like 3M IHG or Meg. glaze will. I do not prefer to strip wax this way because there are abrasives in these products. I like to use a wax and grease remover and it does the best job but its too toxic and smelly. the P21S works great and its harmless to any part of the car. If it wasn't for Sal Zaino none of the Zainoheads would know how to strip the wax off thier cars...lol.

I don't feel comfortable using Dawn either, I just wanted to know if Dawn strips the SG under the wax in case I wanted to experiment sometime and wouldn't have to apply AIO and layers of SG all over again to try a new carnauba.

Does remind me of something I read on another site where someone with a new car was trying Zaino and washed his car with Dawn 3 separate times :shocked on the same day just to make sure his car was prepped right for his Zaino experience. It was painful just to read. The sad part is he planned on doing this prep work every 3 months. Ouch.

dawn does strip the wax and shine out of a car. My car had only wax and i had a bird drop on the hood. So, pulled out some dawn to clean it up, and the spot had lost all its shine for months. BTW, this was a long time ago. That day I learned not to use dawn anymore .
