does anyone here know how this trim is mounted??

on my 98 chevy blazer, the black plastic/rubber side cladding trim..... is it clip mounted, or just double-stick tape/adhesive?? if its just adhesive thats great because I need to take the trim off of the car to scrub it down, then either paint-die it back to original black or just use shoe polish on it - as over the years its turned white and I can't get it back to black without it whiting out again. I've tried all the tricks, and I know its not just "wax" getting into the pores.....

any help on this is greatly appreciated :up

oh, and which 3M tape would I buy to re-mount the stuff after I'm done repairing the trim??

I'll bet $10 that its mounted with pressure tape. Typical GM.

I don't know the part number but 3M makes a specific pressure tape for vehicle trim. Any body shop supply joint should carry it.

It's either Eastwood or 3M that makes a tape residue remover than attaches to a drill and is used as sort of a polishing tool to take off any leftover gunk. Look for that bad boy; it works great.

EDIT

Here's the molding adhesive remover

And here are some adhesive tapes to stick the molding back on

yeah - I just use the "pinstripe remover wheel" to get that gunk off of there...... I just wasn't sure in this case if the trim was pressure mounted or not - I've seen other GM's where that trim is clip-mounted.

But bret - I'm holding you to that $10...... I'd take a bottle of Z6 as payment lol :p (just kidding)
