Do you think it would work?

Just a thought: For those in a large market, do you think that it would be beneficial / possible to get the detailers together in your market area to form an advertising co-op of sorts to finance the production and broadcasting of local ads that inform the public of the benefits of having their cars detailed? Sort of like the Dairy Council and California Orange Growers Association.

Like I said, just a thought I've been kicking around.

Is it possible? Yes...

Is it Likely? NO...

Most people are only out for themselves. Even if you could get everyone to come together and advertise in this manor sooner or later someone would get mad because they are not getting as much business out of the deal as others. Lets face it good detailers get business and bad ones don't.

Troy is right about this one, too many folks looking for their interested only in their well being, but a good idea. There are a few associations out there but will they help or look out for you? Very hard to answer IMO.

I'm not a detailer...I'm a guy that just got a black car worth detailing and have opted to do it myself because I've seen many, many dark colored cars in my area that look like someone that didn't know what they were doing took a rotary buffer to it with a wool pad and the Turtle Wax rubbing compound that comes in the green plastic can. On the other hand, some of you are flat out artists...if that's you, don't associate yourself with the rest of the folks that call themselves detailers. You probably know better than me (an accountant) how to bring in business, but if I were you I'd be promoting myself and approaching country clubs and any other associations where people drive expensive cars and wouldn't want to be bothered to care for them themselves.

Thanks for the feedback. Like I said - it was just a thought. There are a lot of folks out there that do not realize what a "real" detail is all about. I was just trying to figure out a way to spread the cost of educating John Q. Public. :wall

I've said this before. The terms detailing and detailer have become tainted. I refer to what I do as Cosmetic Restoration and Paint Reconditioning.
Everyone who has their their vehicle done says "I have never had a detail like that before" I say "It's the
Difference between a detail and what I do"
Set yourself apart and people will notice and pay for it. You need to bring alot of enthusiasm and dedication but it does work.
