Do John Deere blades come pre-sharpened?

I figure someone here might know.

I just replaced my blades, but they did not seem sharp when I took them out of the package and the mowing performance seems the same, the blades of grass of cut roughly. This suggest they are not sharp right out of the box, which confuses me.

Any thoughs?

Thanks,

Steve

I've never seen any that were not pre-sharpened but I have a Dremmel attachment that I use to give them a little better edge prior to installation.

Thanks, I have seen that attachment.

They are not going to have a knife edge on them are they? They just seem well, dull. painted all black.

I am pretty sure all blades are presharpened. I thnk the paint they put on is more of a prectectant so that the blade doesnt rust before the customer buys it, more of a sacrificial coating. I think the blade under the coating is sharper than you think and using the blade a couple times will easily remove the black paint. I also have the dremel attachement but it is very hard to use with a mulching blade because of the different "levels" to the blade. I typically just use a dremel grinding wheel and do it all by hand.
