Do honda paint require special care ?

Hi,

I'll be doing a 2004 black honda Acccord, in not so long a while, and I'd like to know what needs to be known--that is I prefer to do the right thing, and ask it here before hitting it, this way my mind will be at ease, as I'm never careless round cars.

The guy's just told me he made a 4 inches long scratch on the hood with his ring, yikes ! I've asked him whether his finger caught in it. He told me he will look at it and let me know. Then I told him that the rule appears to be that whenever one's fingerails catches in it, then it can only be faded, but not totally removed, unless one is bold enough to hit the wet sanding....but I'm not getting into that, at least, I won't use a 2004 Honda Accord as a test car . The guy's tried to remove it but prolly used a rough compound and the area he hit is now quite dull. That part I told him would go away using a polish to bring back it's shine. But as far as the scratch, I told him that he his finger didn't actually caught in it, then I should be able to make it go away.

It'll be my first 2004 Honda Accord, and I'm not actually making a living out of it, but only doing it, as an obsessive detailer.

Best regards all !!

Chip Douglas,

What tool will you be using?

It's been my experience that even though the PC is an excellent polisher, it's not very effective in remeding paint problems. You can actually worsen paint problems.

Be careful! You don't want to get too aggresive with a 2004 model. Sometimes it's better just to live with a small scratch, OR let a pro tackle it with a rotary.

Also consider that even though black finishes are awesome when properly maintained ... they're not very forgiving when it comes to flaws.

Gee sorry,

I should have mentioned that I'll be using a rotary, with which I have moderate to good experience. I myself own a black car, but the thing about Honda is, I seemed to recall their paint was tricky to handle, but I wasn't 100% about it, so I reckoned the best would be to ask on this and other forums.

I plan of course on starting with something very mild, like Meg's #82, with a finishing pad. I guess it should be fine, but once again I'm such a careful guy, I prefer to not take any chance and ask here, as others more experienced with many makes of car (among which Honda may figure) can shed some light on my query :) .

Best regard & thanks

Sounds like a good plan:xyxthumbs

Detailed a fairly late model black Acura Integra not too long ago. Didn't notice anything special about the paint.

Good luck! Keep us posted.
