DETAILED TODAY?
Well, we got the famous blinking clean light on the whirlpool that came with the rental. I ran a panel reset, but did not help. Guessing heating element. Being we have only been here a month, he is going to split 50/50 the cost of repair, which i guess is fair enough. Under the lease, we are responsible for all appliances, even tho they are included. Really odd being only about 3 years old. Not saying much for whirlpool!
 
You are responsible for appliances? If the heat or a/c breaks, you have to fix that too?
 
50/50 for repairing his appliances? good for him, bad for you. I wouldn't be surprised if the repair costs twice as much as usual.
 
That sucks, renting and a month into it you are paying for repairs, and here come winter. I hope you had the furnace inspected if you are responsible for repairs, esp living up here!

Some things to check per Whirlpool:

Is the Clean light flashing?

Check the following if the Clean light is flashing:


  • Is the overfill protection float able to move up and down freely? Press down to release.
  • Be sure the water supply is turned on to the dishwasher. (This is very important following the new installation of your dishwasher.)

Is there foam or suds in the bottom of the dishwasher?

Check for foam or suds in the dishwasher. If foam or suds are detected by the dishwasher sensing system, the dishwasher may not operate properly or may not fill with water.

Suds can come from:
1. Using the incorrect type of detergent, such as laundry detergent, hand soap, or dish detergent for hand washing dishes.
2. Forgetting to replace the rinse aid dispenser cap after filling (or refilling) the rinse aid.
3. Using an excessive amount of dishwasher detergent.
It is normal for the Clean light to stay on after the cycle is complete. The Clean light is an indication that the dishwasher has been run and the dishes inside it are clean. Once the door is opened after the cycle is complete, the light will shut off.

Cycle power to the control to reset the dishwasher:
Much like a computer, resetting the dishwasher control can sometimes solve the issues you are experiencing. To reset the dishwasher control panel, it needs to be disconnected from the power source for one minute. If your dishwasher is plugged into an outlet, simply unplug the unit for one minute and then plug the unit back in. If the dishwasher is hard wired to the power supply, turn the breaker off at the home electrical panel that powers the dishwasher for one minute and then turn the breaker back on.


Also I've found some debris/glass fragments stuck in the drain cup that caused a similar issue with mine.

Appliances these days are not made to last like they were previously. Now they day you are lucky to get 5-7 years out of most.
 
If you guys saw the lease I had to sign for my kids college apartment you would fall over.

I had my attorney mark it up and sent it back. The realtor called me and said, we cannot accept any changes to our lease. You have 4 days to deliver a signed clean lease or the apartment will go to the next group on the waiting list. I told my son go find another apartment. Well anything within walking distance to the campus is the same nonsense. Basically we are responsible for everything and I'm of with that, but its the other kids I don't know that concern me as it is written joint and several meaning I am responsible to everyone ands they for me. I know I will pay but I don't know these other people.
 
I went through that a few months ago and yes it was the heating element. Easy to test when the dishwasher was out. Disconnect at least one wire from the element after unplugging the unit and test with an ohmmeter, if no continuity it is bad. I ordered one on line I think about $50.00 and installed, everybody happy.

Same situation with my brother, even though the landlord tried to sneak one past an get them to cover the deposit for water bill. Needless to say she got an ear full...
 
Yea, i see everyones point. We have to re read the lease. But he claims all appliances are the renters responsibilty to fix, even tho they are included and all in working order at the time we moved in. They all appear newer. We, of course saved ours down in the basement.
 
This may have nothing to do with your problem but the only issue I've ever had with my dishwasher is when I run out of the rinse/drying agent the dishes won't dry. I thought my problem was the heating element but when I re-filled the drying agent everything worked fine. Jet-Dry is what I use.
