Disappointed with first detailing attempt

I detailed my first car today - Honda Civic in metallic grey. I was disappointed with the results. I've not posted photos because it started raining 20 mins after I finished buffing the wax and hasn't stopped since.

Here's the procedure I followed:

AG Bodwash Shampoo->Poorboy's Professional Polish->AG Extra Gloss Protection->AG HD Wax

I left the AG EGP on for 3 hours and left overnight to cure. Moisture had formed on the roof and some of the other panels which may have been the cause of the problem. I dried all the panels with Miracle Dryer towels.

Autoglym advised against using EGP and HD Wax together. Others advised that using a sealant and wax together wasn't a problem if I allowed the EPG to cure for 12 hours. This may have been the cause of the disappointing finish.

Maybe anyone can make any suggestions in terms of a different technique or additional products. I don't want to buy a load of new products but rather one or two new ones. What I noticed was the wax didn't make a huge difference. I expected greater gloss, wetness and depth. I only applied one coat of wax - perhaps I should have done 2 or 3 coats?

Next time should I polish again to strip the wax and the sealant or just I just wash and re-wax.

Please advise!

Could you clarify on the process you used to let things cure?

With me, I generally let a sealant or wax "flash" for about 30 minutes, then I buff it off.

then I let it cure overnight and apply the 2nd coat the next morning. I let the 2nd coat flash for 30 minutes, then I buff off.

Is that a similar concept to the way you did it? I hope you didn't just apply the wax/sealant and then let it sit on the car in its unbuffed form, overnight.

Sounds like you used the same process as me, but I just wanted to be sure.

Moisture also seems to affect the application of chemicals as well. When it's way too hot or way too cold...well you know how that goes :).

No - I buffed the sealant (Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection) after 3 hours. I left it to cure overnight (approximately 12 hours).

I think the problem was in the polishing stage rather than LSP. I think I need to use a clay bar and Autoglym Super Resin Polish instead of Poorboy's Professional Polish which is non-abrasive chemical polish.

Pro Polish certainly wont remove any significant swirls if that was one of your disappointments.

Yep, its a paint cleaner, not a swirl remover. You state that the wax didn't give you the result you wanted. All of the "pop" is really in the prep. If the paint doesn't look fantastic before you put wax/sealant on there, its not going to get much better.

What was it you were not happy with? Could be a few solutions if you could elaborate for us.

I have used HD and EGP with no problems, although I know they say you dont need to go over EGP

As has been mentioned already, if the paintwork is no good - sealant and wax aint gonna help
