Dirty Exhaust Needs Help!

It's my opinion that my G35's exhaust has been ignored all her life! (see pics) I got some Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream to try to de-tar and brighten up the exhaust. Should I take it back? Will a different product work better? Last longer?

Thank you for all your wisdoms!

Cheers,

Ian

My exhaust looked similar to that, mybe a little worse. I just took some sand paper to it and sanded all the heavy stuff off then went to a lighter grit. Once I was happy with the cleanliness, I took some meguiars metal polish to it. It is not a mirror finish but I am very happy with how it turned out. It shines but looking really closely you can see the sanding marks, just remember it is only an exhaust and a stock one at that. I could see keeping it mirror like if it was an expensive aftermarket stainless unit.

I just sanded the back of the muffler, the part you see standing behind the car.

I'm having a similar dilemma, but parts have started to flake off, revealing clean metal. I'm just afraid of cleaning it because I don't know if it has some sort of protective coating on it or not. I just don't want it to become high maintenance and/or worry about it rusting out.
