Differences between 4*UPP and EXP?

wifehatescar

My L5-S1 is killing me!
I have EXP currently and was looking at maybe getting UPP (not like I need another LSP:cool). What are the differences in terms of ease of use and looks? I'm sure both are very durable. I heard a long time ago UPP needed to cure for 45 minutes (this is longer than I let EXP cure for), is that still the case?

Also, is UPP thin or thick? I've been on a current kick of putting all my thin LSP's in a spray bottle and applying like a QD. I think it looks great.

Thanks.

UPP is a thin viscosity water based sealant. I have heard that when layered together, EX-P and UPP look very reflective and optically clear.

Then again, they both look great by themselves as well. UPP needs 15 minutes or more to dry, with 24 hours to more to cure and cross-link completely.

Personally I like the UPP a lot the shine is mirror like the EX-P is a warmer shine and that really depends on the color of the car

*How* thin is UPP? Like Klasse SG or Aromor All? If I put it in a fine mist spray bottle would it spray ok?

Does UPP look more like EXP or SG? Or different than both?

Is that enough questions for one post? :D

You don't mist any sealants on you use a foam applicator for this use. The best ones that I have seen are PB PVA foam ones they are harder and square and will lay down a real thin layer with ease.

I did not explain that well, I either mist the product on the paint and then spread with a foam applicator or I spray on a foam applicator and then rub that in the paint.
For me, it is easier to use just enough product this way rather than a water like product flowing out of the bottle too fast.

Has anyone tried here tried this?
I was wondering what the results would be when mixing LSP's

Yes, I tried this about a month or so ago. I used SSR1, VM, EX-P, UPP, EX-P, then topped with S100. This was on a medium grey metallic paint.

My observation was that putting UPP on top of EX-P significantly changed the look. Although both sealants are fairly clear, the combination wound up changing the color (seemed to add a touch of bronze). The resulting look was more glossy than wet. The only word that came to mind when I tried to describe it was "molten". It was certainly very interesting, but I decided that I didn't really like the look with that particular car. In an effort to "fix" it, I applied another coat of EX-P. This really made the paint glow. Then, I tried to add some depth by topping with S100. My conclusion? It looked nice, but I don't see it replacing my current favorite combo for that car (VM, EX, S100).

I've tried the UPP/EX-P combo too. It is quite an intersting look. I think Marj described the look very well. It would probably be a nice combination to put on a gold, beige, tan, copper, or similar colored vehicle.

To me, the UPP has a bit softer look than the EX-P, where as the EX-P has a bit brighter look.

Both are fine products.

Do you think it would make a difference which was applied first?

Marj said she topped the EX-P w/ UPP, do you think there would be a different appearence if UPP was applied first then topped w/ EX-P?

Just wondering ?

The paint seems to take on slightly more characteristics of the product on top. However, if you were to do multiple layers, it probably wouldn't matter.

I also started with EX-P.......... and then topped with UPP........... then EX-P. I prefered the EX-P on top (on a white vehicle). Other colors might be different.

Which one is "wetter" UPP or EX-P,and which one is slicker ?

Boss...Steve...?

Of all the selants I have tried (EX, FMJ, Tropicare, Zaion, WG, Duragloss) nothing is slicker than UPP - hands down

Zaino is supposed to be very durable (which is a big priority for me). How long does UPP last?

Regards,

Dan.

My findings are: EX-P is wetter. UPP is slicker(the slickest sealant I have ever used). They both are clear. This winter I'll do a side by using several coats of each on both my cars.

I have UPP, EX-P and Zaino..So far i agree that UPP is the slickest of all, though Zaino stays slicker much longer tho i find you will need at least 3 coats of Z for this effect and looks.
All three appear very bright and clear, EX-P looks the wettest, zaino the more mirror like shine and UPP a very shimmering look wet and bright.
My car is Titanium Silver so at least for me any of these choices you cannot go wrong. I would like to try the FMJ next.
