Diehard Dewalt user converts to Makita

For whatever reason, I have been a diehard Dewalt rotary (DW849) user for all of my detailing life.

I finally gave it up for a new Makita 9227C, for two reasons:

- Much lighter

- Controled speed down to 600 RPM

The RPM was the biggest reason, as I have come to find out that in some conditions, I need slow RPM to finish swirl-free on dark colors. I actually did back to back tests (all things the same) and 1000 RPM left swirls and 600 RPM did not. 1000 RPM is the slowest setting onthe Dewalt DW849.

Granted, you can pull your Dewalt trigger in part-way to get below 1000 RPM, but its hard to control.

Anywho, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

Also, if anyone is considering the Makita, I found it for $169 with a free Makita bag. PM me if you want the link.

I made the same jump. The Makita felt like a cheap toy at first. It's not.

Just recently got a PCXP; it feels like a cheap toy right now. :)

Which handle did you go with? I was so used to the Dewalt handle, that I went with the side handle on the Makita.
