Did I just wash the polish/wax off?

Had car wheeled out with wool pad / rubbing compound then

finished with a finishing pad & polish and a hand wax after that....

other day i washed the car with pretty hot water, all the swirls came back!

did i melt the polish/wax off and have to have it polished/waxed again?

car is a black 93 rx7
 
Well, it could be that all the swirls were just filled, and you removed the fillers...or you could have put them back in with your wash technique...can you tell us how you washed?
 
It sounds like the polish/compound you used contained a lot of fillers and did little to actually correct the swirls. What products did you use?
 
car wash soap, hot water from faucet, soft mitt to spread soap and bath towels to dry, also sprayed with the ultrahot water before and after soaping
 
I didn't do it, but i've paid 2 individuals so far to rub it out with a wool pad and some type of light compound then polish then wax, happier the second time, was crap the first time... i'm in west michigan and haven't found someone that's really good at this for an aged car

Well I will give it to you straight



1.) The swirls were not removed with the wool(and they actually could have added more)

and they used a product with fillers that got washed away



or



2.) They removed they swirls and you put them back!

maybe because of very soft paint

or you need to learn how to wash a car the correct way



So your options are to find someone from here to correct your paint

and/or spend some time here and to do it yourself

Umm, why were you drying with bath towels? Chances are they just filled the swirls and you washed them off, and probably introduced some more with your wash regimen.

I use very hot water and a strong soapy solution whenever I am preparing to strip the surface and establish a new baseline.

This is my guess. It sounds like the swirls were filled and not corrected, and the hot water you used removed the oils/fillers. Your wash process could also be causing some of these swirls, however I don't think one wash would make that noticeable a difference unless you were using sandpaper.



Have you tried contacting the people who worked on your car?

It sounds to me like a step was missed. If I was doing I'd cut/polish/final polish/wax



Also, using a bath towel to dry your car isn't a good idea, it introduces swirls as well. Use either a chamois (the absorber is one of my favorites) or a waffle weave microfiber towel to dry your car. Make sure you use something super soft to wash the car with as well, I use a microfiber wash mitt.
 
Very hot water on a very cold surface is a great way to liberate all sorts of things, wax, etc. included!
