Did I do it wrong w/black car

I have been following the processes twice and not happy with the result. The black color didn't come out as shinny and "watery" as I wanted.

- Washed
- Clayed
- Poorboys SSR1 - Paint is quite new - 04 Black E320
- AIO
- SG twice - 8 hrs cure time
- S100 - 3 layers.

I repeated the proceedure above one more time and still not happy. Should I add SSR2 before SSR1?

The paint came out very smooth but not glossy. It has a dull black. I detailed the car in my garage. I heard that Souveran will work better with black but S100 can't be that bad. There were many treads talked about S100 on black cars and very happy with the result. I am thinking about order Natty (blue). Can I use Natty blue on top of S100 or I have to repeat all the processes over again with Natty blue.

If I eliminate SG, will I get better result?

Sorry for long tread.

The SG might not have cured quite as completely as if you had left it for a full day, I believe that it says a full 24 hours is needed to cure. You might want to go over it with a QD just to see if you got some dust or something.

You may not like the look of SG. :dunno
Typically, SG isn't described as wet. It seems to be more shiny/reflective. This wouldn't explain the dullness, though.
Did the paint look good after the SSR1? At what point did you become unhappy with the look?

(Oh, you can apply Natty's over the S100.)

How was this applied? Hand/PC

What AIO are you using?

How is the car stored, and often have you done this?

Thanks

AIO and SG was applied by PC with white and grey pad. The car always store in the garage. I went through the 2 completed processes in 3 weeks because I didn't like the first time. I couldn't tell when the dullness happened. It look good indoor. I can see the dullness in the sun. I will give it some QD and another coat of S100 and see what happen. Thank you guys for the advice. I will give update.

How long did you wait between the final layer of SG and the first layer of S100? I experienced a hazing problem twice when I failed to allow SG to fully cure before topping with a carnauba. I would recommend waiting a few days (even a week) before topping SG.

Then again, Big Leegr could be correct in saying that you might not like the look of SG. It's a very durable sealant, but not everybody likes its appearance.

Does anyone know if this car has a Ceramiclear (sp??) clearcoat?

If so, I doubt SSR1 will touch any imperfections that need correcting & tyltan will need to pickup some Menzerna PO85RD polish made specifically for Ceramiclear surfaces.

I agree that the SG "look" may not appeal to you on black so you may have to look for a DC'er that has a similar vehicle to see what works for them.

I've used Souveran on my Dad's old Black Mercury, as well as S100, after thorough prep & cleaning and I didn't see that much difference .... they're both quality carnaubas.

I believe that the W211 E class does use the Ceramiclear clear coat from PPG, I suggest you also pick up some Menzerna it offers far better results to me then Poorboys has on Ceriamiclear and non-clearamiclear finishes.

Make sure you apply the SG as thin as possible and, when you think you have applied it thin enough, come back to this thread and read it again.

YOU CAN'T APPLY SG THIN ENOUGH :lol

If you can see the SG going on, it is 1000X to thick.
