DeWALT DW443...alternative to PC?

Hi gang,

DW443_1.gif

Has anybody tried this DeWALT orbital polisher/sander? Since I already have a DeWALT high-speed polisher (and love it), naturally I would like to stick with DeWALT. The picture doesn't show a handle, but it comes with one. I imagine that the dust collector is removable as well. I really, really like the quality of DeWALT power tools (it's all I own).

Here's a link to it on DeWALT's site:

If enough of you are interested, I'll be more than happy to pick one of these up and do a review on it. Please share your thoughts with me on this one.

Aloha,

Keoni

It would work. My only complaint is the lowest speed is too fast. It would be hard to "work" polishes at low speeds with that machine. Other than that it's fine.

Thanks for the feedback, Intel.:up I've read that the dampening bushing (plastic gasket) needs to be changed often on this DeWALT...is this true? Have you changed yours?

I've also read that it's a tad noisy--have you noticed this?

I was at Lowe's yesterday and plugged a new PC in. It's relatively quiet...sort of has an off-beat, "rattling" sound to it that makes it sound somewhat broken (perhaps the one I heard WAS broken!).

Now that I'm doing some research, I've also read about the Bosch 6 Random Orbit Sander/Polisher, Model 3727DVS. Anybody using this one?

http://www.boschtools.com/On+The+Job/Commercial+Construction/prod_detail.htm?item_no=3727DVS

The things I like (from reading) about the Bosch is that the speed control is right by your thumb, so conceivably, you could change speed while working without stopping. There's a locking index finger trigger. Comes stock with Velcro backing. Speed range is 4,500 - 12,000. The one negative thing that comes to mind with this one is how does on stand it up between polishing sessions? I imagine that all PC users sit there PC on it's backside with the pad facing up (BTW, I drape a small microfiber cloth over the pad on my high-speed when it's not in use--just in case someone steps over it and drops a nice 1/32" sized grain of sand in the pad while I'm not looking :-).

Thanks again for your input, folks. If I had unlimited resources, I'd buy all these 6" polishers and conduct the "Big Orbital Shootout"! Sponsors, anyone? I'll provide the car and the energy! ;)

I have no clue about the dampening bushing... How do I tell if I need to have them changed? I guess I'll call over the Heiden in the morning to ask about that.

Yes, the DeWalt is noisy but it isn't too bad. I asked my friend about it who does a lot of wood work and he saies it sounds like all RO sanders.

Yhea, the DeWalt makes a rattling noise. When I bought it he let me plug it in and turn it on. I asked them about it and he said that is their normal sound.

The speed control for the DeWalt is right where I keep my thumb on the side. I can change speeds while it is in use.

Hey Intel,

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering--does that DeWalt have a throttle trigger, or is it either on or off? Meaning, can you slow down the speed by backing off on the trigger? My rotary DeWalt is like that--I dial in the max speed and can control the speed anywhere under that setting with the trigger.

Thanks again,

Keoni

The DeWalt orbital is simply on/off

Most rotarys have triggers though that will allow you to feather it around edges, etc.
