Hi all,

I searched and found a little information but have more questions. I live in an apartment with no cover parking, water hose/station, and up in NorthEast where it gets to 20F and below. What is the best way for me to detail my car and what products? I know I can wash my car with QEW, but what about wax/polish wise? I'd like to try Zaino, but know that i can't. Does anyone have tips/ideas? Thx in advance.

Boy I feel your pain! I'm in the same situation in Northern NJ. I use QEW to wash the car and Meguiars NXT to protect it in the winter months. When the weather is really uncooperative I use NXT spray wax after a QEW wash

I can't wait to have a garage......heated no less!

Here in central PA, winter kicks it up another notch from what you will usually see.

My winter prep is to polish in the late fall, and get a couple of coats of something durable on top. I used Collinite #845 Insulator Wax this winter. It worked very well; I was happy with the results. I can take the car to a "wand-wash" booth, to get off road salt and gunk, and know that I still have some protection.

Of course, I will wait till spring to do the "full boat" that Patrick mentioned. And, I was lucky in that this winter was not horroble (so far). I hand-washed a number of times.

Anyway, I think that the trick is to get a late-fall setup that will get you through the winter, expecting that in a nasty winter you may not be able to do anything to the car for a month.

Just my 2c.

Use Collinite as a LSP, QEW when you can, and hose it down (don't use the brush or the soap, the soap will burn up your LSP) at the local spray and pray when it's too cold to wash. The best route is to network with someone who has a heated garage, if you can :).
