Detailing Technology: 2006 Honda Civic Si -JSATEK

2006 Honda Civic Si coupe, 41k Black.

I was contacted by the owner of this vehicle last week via e-mail. His main concern was swirls, this was an exterior only, the interior was in decent shape. I first saw this car at the appointment, first time for me, usually I view all of the vehicles ahead of time to foumulate a game plan and discuss th owners expectations. Luckily the owner knew what he wanted for the vehicle. I wish I had a better camera to capture the level of swirling. I also wich I remembered to take the time to take pictures while I am working..

I started a 8:15am with a foam gun wash using Poorboys Super Slick & Suds to see what I was in store for. Total time: 8 hours.

I used the Makita and Menzerna Intensive Polish 2x with a Yellow Edge 2000. I need some more wool pads.

Late to the game shot, but I hit the hood with 2000 grit paper. It had many chips and pits. I tried to level it bit and lighten up egg damage.

After Intensive Polish and an isopropyl alochol wipe down, I tried Z-PC, but found Menzerna Final Polish II to work best. The paint started to come back to life. The blue metallic flakes started to pop out.

Next, I washed the car again, this time with Zaino Z-7 to remove the oils and splattered polish. Then a wipe with Zaino Z-6 before 2 applications of Zaino Z-5pro / ZFX / Z-8 mix. I used a little Z-8 to assist in the removal of the sealant.

The color has a tremendous amount of blue metallic flake which didn't show until polishing. In the sun this was very similar to the BMW Carbon Black, dark in the shade, dark blue in the sun.

Nicely done jsatek! I recently had a customer with the same color Honda and after the initial wash I was convinced the car was a midnight blue color and not black. You can really see it nicely in your 3rd to last shot (house reflected photo).

Looks great, much better then it was. I dont understand how these peoples vehicles get as bad as they do, especially this one for example since he has aftermarket parts tied up into it, you would think they would care?

Most of them they have no idea until you show them the defects with halogen light. They just see their car a little bit shiny and they think that it is great. When i detailed a Saab(8 hours of detailing) the owner told me that he never imagine that his car had so many swirls until he saw them under the halogen light. he didn't expected to have the results that we had.He told me that he was only expected just to give a little bit more shine and not so much shine :D

Thanks all.

I believe the only remaining factory painted parts were the roof, doors, and quarters. The nose and rocker panels (side ground effect) were pitted beyond belief. The rear bumper had a clear blend in it that I softened. The swirls came out, there were a for RIDS I couldn't get, this car stays outside and the owner has taken it to the tunnel wash.

Glad to have such a great detailer so close!

That paint was pretty rough and you are a brave man for breaking out the papers. Bet you wish you had some M105 for this one ;).

How did the owner respond? Any reason why he opted out of the greasy topper? :D

Luckily this guy was familiar with Zaino, Swissoil didn't come into the conversation. Im having that 550 back this weekend for a wash and wax, I'll definitely hit it with Z-5pro.

I have given up on the Exxon Valdez of last step products, Carnauba wax.
