Detailing of 2003 MDX

I'm doing my first 'professional" detail this Saturday. It's a 2003 Acura MDX. Other than a few scratches and maybe some swirls (I haven't seen the vehicle yet) I'm told the piant is in fairly good shape. What he wants is to clean up the inside (kids have made somewhat of a mess he tells me) and to "protect the outside" for his upcoming driving vacation. I don't believe it's ever been waxed before (no time). Since he doesn't take care of it very often, he's asked that I use a sealant (after a discussion about the relative longevity of wax vs sealants).

So, the here's what I plan for the outside:

- wash

- claybar

- DACP (for the scrached areas. Overall only if needed)

- AIO

- SG (2x?)

- Sonüs Acrylic Spritz ?

I have a PC and have used it several times on my cars and some of my relatives' cars. I have all of the detailing products listed ready to go, along the other things I'll need (PC pads, applicators, MF towels and bonnets, etc.)

I've never used Klasse stuff before so, I also was thinking of using Zaino (I've used this on my car and like it) or possibly even going a different route and using this routine:

- wash

- claybar

- DACP (for the scrached areas. Overall only if needed)

- #9

- NXT

- NXT Spray Wax

I believe I've settled on the Klasse route though and I have some questions about it:

Does this sequence look OK?

Can I do two coats of SG the same day?

Anything special I should know?

Tips?

I'm thinking it'll take around 6 hours. Sound reasonable?

Thanks in advance!

From what I have seen with similar combo's, you can't go wrong either way. I would think that you should stay away from adding any toppings, spray wax or spritz, for 24 hours though.

Apply Klasse "really" thin. And I personally would wait a day until I apply a second coat of SG.

Other than that your plan looks about perfect!

someone has told me when using SG after applying it onto the car spray some quick detailer onto it or onto the towel then go over it then wipe it off. has anyone tried this? its suppose to make it look really deep

Since you have not used Klasse and the weather forcast is suppose to scattered showers, I would not use KSG. KSG has a slight learning curve and can streak and haze in humid conditions. I have not used Zaino, so I am not sure how it works with humidity.

I would use AIO before any sealant as AIO is a good way to prep the surface. AIO is a very verstile and easy to use product.

Try KSG on your own car first, and find a method which works for you.

1. Both sequence looks ok.

2. With wax and sealants the vehicle should remain dry (no wash, no QD, no toppers, no additonal layers, rain or snow if possible) for at least 12 preferrable 24 hours of cure time or your results my vary.

3.If you have used Zaino or NXT before use it on the MDX.

4.

5. Six hours sounds about right if you most of time on cleaning the inside.

You could try Meg's #20 or MPPP, if you do not want to use Zaino or NXT. PB EX or EX-P would also work well. For more info on PB products PM ScottP.

Yeah. Zaino is applied very thin as well, so I'm familiar with thin appliactions. Thanks for the tip regarding waiting for the 2nd application. I didn't know that about Klasse. Zaino can be layered the same day if you use the ZFX curing agent. I've done up to three layers the same day.

Thanks again.

Yeah, it's done nothing BUT rain this week. Humidity can influence application and drying time of Zaino but I haven't noticed streaking or hazing problems yet. BUT, it hasn't been overly humid when I've used it.

Thanks for the tips. I will reconsider what I'm going to use. Your assistance is appreciated.

BTW, here's a picture of my wife's CRVafter detailing a few weeks ago. It's a 2002 and hadn't been waxed in over a year and never detailed. She's a landscaper and get's it muddy and dirty a lot.

I used Megs Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner, Deep Crystal System Polish and finally Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax. It was an experiment with my new PC and using the Meg's consumer line. Anyway, if this works, here it is

I haven't seen it yet so I'm not sure what color it is.

It's OK to use NXT on top of AIO? Cool! Thanks for the information.

If tihs is your first professional detail, i suggest that you go with a process that you're familiar with.

Good luck,

Bob

I may do that, but I talked it over with the 'client' (a friend of mine) and he's fine with a bit of experimentation on my part. I told him if he didn't like it for any reason, I'd make it good and he's fine with it. So, if I do use something new, I'd be doing it to expand my base of experience and knowledge for future detailing jobs. Oh! It may have also helped that I told him I'd give him a small discount ;)

Thanks for the good luck!
