Detailing Big Rig

This big rig took me almost 7 hours. I dacp the whole truck, then megs #80, and topped it with Megs #20. The reason for the #20 is when the owner is on the road and gets it washed - Truck washes use a heavy degreaser and I wanted to protect the finish a little longer than with just wax. Correct me if I am wrong on the #20, but I now do regular duty on this truck. Customer wants it shining all the time. I used to drive one of these rigs so experience has spoken on bad truck washes. Anyone have suggestions for protection on this big rig?

Thanks

Rick

Wow!

Some job there. Excellent work :up

I would say Klasse twins or Zaino for ultimate protection.

Thanks:wavey

I have not tried the twins or Zaino since I already have so much detailing stock. My wife would really kick me to order those items before I used up some of my stock items. How do those items stand up to degreasers? Truck washes use some really harsh stuff.

You could also try Collinite Insulate Wax or Fleet Wax, they are carnuabas but very tough ones which could make it through a few tough washes.

But then again those are some new products to buy. I'd go with Klasse or Zaino if you are ordering new.

Nice job. I always like to see a detailed rig. It shows pride and professionalism.

#20 is pretty good, but I like #16 even more. You might also consider using #20 to lightly polish and seal the paint and top with #16. Since you polished out the paint real good, you can probably go with #20 until the next deep polishing is needed.

The Klasse twins are also good but if you want to try using what you have on hand first, I'd go with #20 topped with #16. Barry has a nice stock of #16 on hand at Wash-Solutions....by the way, Barry says "Hi". :)

Great job on that big rig. Between boats and big trucks, I think you would be lost of someone called you to detail a Miata!

The Rig looks good.

How often will you be seeing the truck?

What did you use on the wheels?

How far does the truck travel?

I do not think much will stand up to a degreaser wash. Multiple layers of a sealant may help.

silly questions here...

how do you reach the top part of the truck?

how do you clean the second inner set of tires?

you can stand up there cause i did it, the owner said it was ok to stand up there so i did on the sides i used a ladder and covered up the ladder stops w/ wash mits.

On the 2nd inner i dunno :nixweiss

Good job on the detail

What did you use to clean the frame rails? Pressure washer? I have a cousin who drives a Freightliner Century Class like that one and I've already expressed interest in detailing it.

I just talked to her today and she wants me to detail her rig. I have a couple of questions, though.

a) What did you use to clean the frame of the rig?

b) Did you polish the aluminum rims (Cousin's rig has the same Alcoa wheels).

Hey Rick,

Gotta love detailing those big trucks. I have got a number of customers who own those types of vehicles and I just thoroughly enjoy every hour that I spend making them look brand new again. Once they're done, they remind me of toy Tonka trucks.

I especially like the way the hood opens forward on these types of trucks. That makes it a lot easier to polish and wax and it also makes it easier to thoroughly clean the engine compartment too.

Keep up the good work!

To answer your questions:

a. I used simple green and a pressure washer to clean the frame. Soak the frame with simple green for about 10 minutes and then pressure wash or hose off the dirt.

b. I polished the aluminum rims with mothers and they looked good.

Thanks Frank,

I like them to, but the top was a real pain since I did not have a ladder tall enough. I ended up climbing on top to polish and wax everything out.
