Detailing Advice Needed Black Car

I just picked up a used 2002 Black Chevy Impala. It was a salesmans car from work. As we know sales guys could really care less about taking care of a free car. Any way the car has some scratches that are fairly deep. I don't think that a PC would help out. I'm currently using Zaino on my Rendezvous and Corvette and I'd like to do the same here. My question is what should I do to prep for the zaino. I'm wondering if the wash with dawn prior to zainoing will remove all of my prep steps. I understand that the prep work is what really makes the car shine. I'm planning on claying the car and then I'm not sure from there. I've listed the products I currently have, I'm trying to end up using zaino and nothing else.

Pinnacle swirl remover

Pinnacle advanced swirl remover

Pinnacle liquid sovereign

Pinnacle paste glaz

Zaino Z1

Zaino Z6

I'm planning on getting the new Z8

I've heard Zaino has a new prep product coming out.



I tried the scratch X today with so so results. They are fairly deep scratches and I don't expect miracles!



What do you guys think.

Get some #83 or #80 and go at it with a PC. Then finish up with the Zaino system after the swirls are gone, or diminished to an acceptable level.
 
You should prep the surface first and foremost. The step I take is the same White95Max , #83 then #80 then you can use nxt wax or souveran

Or you can try to eliminate scratches using #83 then follow with AIO and SG and top with Souveran.

Try to search this forum, there are a lot of good example of detailing black car here.
 
80 isnt going to make a dent......Yellow pads and 83 would help a great deal, or even SSR 3.0, you could clean up with a light polishing pad and some vanilla moose or 2.0...(I hope your using a PC?) You'd be surprised at what a PC with proper pads and products can do.
 
After washing, maybe claying I would do #83 and follow it up with #7 show car glaze, then 2 coats of NXT tech wax since you have those. Apply all those with a PC buffer. Don't use dish washing soap, just regular car wash soap is better, it won't dry out the oils in the paint. I've seen Zaino side by side with NXT and on a black car, the NXT will make it looker deeper black.
 
Here's my advice.



Wash/clay/de-mar/protect then park the car in the garage and don't move it.



That way you'll get some sleep at night :D

That is no natural oils in cured automotive paint. Zero. None.

Still one would not use a dishing detergent unless one intends to remove old carnauba-like protectant to produce a virgin surface for a new wax or sealant application.



Though NXT looks nice, on two properly black prepped vehicles (I have 3 (67 & 95 Z28 and Lexus LS) the Zaino, especially the new Z2-PRO, always wins hands down for appearance and clarity of such. Week, after week, after week. JMHO.

That exactly what I used. #80 PC then Z5 2 coats , Z 2pro 2 coats

then Z8 it to perfection. Nothing better for black IMO, Until Zaino releases their cleanser.

I still need to wash the car with dish soap before I apply the zaino don't i? I just want to make sure I do the proper prep first, and won't take it all off with the dish soap!
 
What you "need" to do is to remove the old wax as part of the preperation for applying new coats.



This can be accomplished by using dedicated products (paint cleaners, or Prep-Sol for instance).



Some one a long time ago got it in thier head that you can wash your car with dish soap and get the same result (removing the old wax) and the idea has proliferated all over the known world (probaly cause it's quick, cheap and easy)



BTW a good polish will strip wax off as well.
