Detailing a 1985 Cutlass

I have a customer who owns a 1985 Cutlass. He might have read somewhere that it is not safe to claybar the exterior. Something about it not having a clearcoat? I am in the dark on this also. I'd appreciate it if anyone could let me know if claying this vehicle is a good idea. Thanks.

mbs431- I responded about the claying on the other thread.

Noting that you caught some flak on that other thread about "if you have to ask...", I'm gonna add my 2₵ along those lines, hope you don't take offense: you'd better have a pretty complete understanding of working on older single stage before you do this car. I'm assuming it has the original paint, so remember that "it's only original once". I'd hate for you to have an "oops!" and trash it, or do something that'll cause it to fail after a while. My GMs of that vintage didn't exactly have high-quality paintjobs, not by a long shot. If it has any factory decals you need to be *VERY* careful with/around those too.
