Detailers and White cars

I'm somewhat mixed on this. As a detailer I hate detailing a white car. when you're done they look great but they're a pain to work on and when a white car is placed to a dark car in similar shape the dark car will always look better.



Regardless..I think that white cars are particularly sexy in that they show off every single line of the car in great definition and don't mute any lines at all like a darker color can do.



Sooo...would it be considered a bad thing or a poor way to show off your work if you drove a white car as a detailer?



Now that I've asked this the most generic way possible....I've found a BMW M3 that's "The perfect deal" for me right now. It's Alpine White with Imola Red interior. Dead sexy car at the right price with the right options. Previously owned by a detailer, car is spotless inside and out, everything is just right...front bumper hasn't even been drilled for the dreaded Ohio front plates. I can't go into how perfect this car sounds (I go to see it tomorow). My only problem is that it's not a great way to show off my skills. True my driver is still going to be my Black A4...but anytime I'm out other than going to work or back it will be in the M.



Should I forget about it being a poor platform to show off my work and go with my heart on this one?

I have to disagree with your statement that white cars cannot be rolling advertisements. The BMW alpine white is a VERY crisp color (it is quite aptly named). Plus, you have the advantage of the car looking great even if there is a little dust on it.



The only problem you will have is the white BMW paint with the black BMW brake dust:D

I saw a mobile detailer yesterday morning in a large white van. The thing that caught my eye was how clean and reflective the paint looked; it would definitely make a good first impression on their business.



If white can look good on a van, think how much better it will look on a detailed M3. I don't think your customers would really care what color car/truck you drive, but rather how their car/truck looks after you're finished with it.

I feel the way you do about white about silver. Silver's not for me and I can understand how white is not for others.
 
I'm not all that much of a white care guy, but there are *some* vehicles that look just *GREAT* in that color. My old VW wagon was one of them and I got a lot of compliments on its condition- people were always saying how incredible it looked. If you like the M3 (looks, driving, condition, etc.) I'd get it. I wouldn't worry too much about it showing off your abilities as a detailer (which I think it'll do anyhow). That sounds like a great find, BTW.
 
White can look great if properly cared for, which I'm sure you would do as a detailer. The best part is, a white car can look clean for many days as long as the weather cooperates.

My detailing-for-profit started when I got some compliments on my car's appearance, and someone asked me to detail their car. Word of mouth took over from there. :)
 
AIO + #16 will make you love white paint.



After having a black car for 6 months now, I can honestly say I have a serious love/hate relationship with black. I love how it looks freshly cleaned and detailed and begin hating in the next day when it begins to get dusty. I'll be going insane in late March and early April when the live oak pollen is turning it green within an hour.



To combat thinksnow's comment about BMW brake dust, switch to ceramic pads ASAP!
 
I thought about this, too. Except my issue wasn't an unreflective white car, it's a lifted, dented, scratched, dirty Jeep (on the verge of clear coat failure, I think :( )



Obviously it'll be kept clean, but will that matter after being kissed by branches and bushes all the time?
 
I say go with the M3. For me I only like white if its on a pretty nice car, which an M3 definately qualifies as. You can definatley make the white look incredible. As others said, as long as its nice and shiny, your clients won't be thinking about how it would look in a different color, unless your an Autopian. Besides the "Alpine White" paint is one of the nicest whites i've seen on an auto.
