Detailed my GLI a few day's ago, tried to post but couldn't. First time using A PC and I love it! Have detailed by hand for years and can really appreciate the results and ease of use of the PC ( the PC is really > by hand ). The car was in pretty good condition besides haveing light to moderate swirls and cob webbing, sorry I don't have before pics. Pics are not that good, hopefully I will get better at taking photos. The process was as follows

Washed

Clayed

1Z PP white pad 2 passes

1Z MP white pad 1 pass

AG EGP buffed off after 3 hrs. (1 coat )

Topped with P21s next day ( 1 coat )

The car looks great, and I love those monte carlos, but I have one question...is that really a GLI? Where's the black headlights, GLI front valence, tailights? And, what's that badge under your blinker on the fender?

Hey flip2jetta, yeah it's really a GLI. It's a 2003 the first year they came out. I don't know anything about black headlights or front valence maybe its an American model apposed to the Canadian GLI ( I live in Canada ) or maybe that stuff comes on newer models. As for the badge under the blinker, it's a 50th anniversary emblem.

lookin good, any sun shots?

Sorry, I waited for the sun to come out but it did not cooperate. The best I could do was the close up on the fender almost a sun shot. I will try to get a full sun shot tomorrow, weather permitting of course but it looks very clear in direct sun no swirls remaining.

Gentlemen . . . this is the first MKIV GLI. Volkswagen felt tremendous pressure from the North American market (enthusiasts and a bit of nostalgia) to re-introduce the GLI. This shares no similarity to the newest model sporting 18â€Â BBS RCs, Votex body trim, and the 180 HP 1.8T. The above is the first Jetta GLI with a 200 HP 24V VR6 and six-speed transmission . . . it was the first of itâ€â„¢s kind for the 1999 â€â€œ 2004 platform.

Great work DSVWGLI! :xyxthumbs

Sharp looking car.

There are a MILLION black Jettas around my city, but few with the colour/rim/acc. package you have- kudos.

(and of course, few of them properly detailed)

Hey guy's, I just looked on the Canadian VW site and the 1.8t GLI comes with everything flip2jetta say's in his review, but the VR6 model is still like mine. I wish the VR6 model came with everyting the 1.8t has. You can only get the 1.8t GLI in the US no VR6 option.

Ooooh, sorry guys didn't mean to cause any confusion. In any case your car does look great man :) and a 24v VR6 at that, mod away my friend and unleash your cars potential :D. Thanks for the clarification Knockwurst :xyxthumbs:

I have an 03 that looks EXACTALLY like that. I mean identicle. GLI and all.

I am working to repair the paint as well. Can you clarify the products you used? I am still not up to speed on the abbreviations.

Hey Tim W, The products I used are as follows- After washing car and claying I made a couple passes with Einzett 1Z paint polish ( med. abrasive ) buffed off then 1 pass with Einzett 1Z metalic polish ( low abrasive ). I then used a paint sealant Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. The next day after it had a chance to bond to the paint I buffed off and applied a paste wax P21s as a topper. I used these products with a PC polisher but you could use them by hand as well. I hope this answers your question. Let me know how you make out or if there is any thing else.

oh wow.... wouldn't guess you were a first timer, black isn't easy to make look THAT good. It took me a couple times when I was starting out to get good results. :xyxthumbs
