Detailed a Tank! 56k Beware

Well I didn't really detail a tank, but it got you in here. :D Anyway I detailed my father's 99 GMC Suburban. It's big enough so I guess you could call it a tank. The truck has made numerous trips to and from North Carolina so it has seen it's share of the open road. Now the truck just sits in the garage until the weekends when we take it to Church.



This is my first Autopian picture post. More to come...



Anyway here are the steps that I used.



3M Fine Compound (x2 depending on how bad each panel was)

Megs #9 SMR (x2 depending on how many scratches were left after the fine compound)

Detail King Foam Pad Glaze (This stuff works real well. Took out some of the fine fine scratches and left a nice smooth finish to the paint)

Klasse AIO

Liquid Glass (LSP)



Invisible Glass on windows

Armor All on trim and wheel wells

Detail King Tire Shine on tires ( Still debating whether I like this stuff or not)

What level armor does the tank have and do you have problems with streaking on the bullet proof windows?
 
Thanks for the comments guys. As for the armor and the bullet proof glass, thats a secret on what I use to clean it. He's actually looking for a Supercharger for it. :bigups But I'll take pics of that when or if it happens.

The detail took me about 7 hours, and that was just the exterior. I still have to get to the interior. I will take pics when I get to that.

Lookin' good. Although I believe the Liquid Glass would have removed the AIO. But you still get the cleaning properties of AIO.
 
So White95Max if I use this setup for future details, I could cut out the Klasse and just skip right onto the Liquid Glass. I also have Megs #16 too as a LSP. But I have had some problems removing it, that is why I tried Liquid Glass.

I would actually keep the AIO, and add #16 on top of it. Leave out the LG.



But yeah LG would remove any AIO that was on the car already, so any benefit you got from it was purely its cleaning abilities.
 
I agree with Paul but would look at adding a sealant in before the #16. It works great as a topper LSP. LG is getting pretty old fashioned and apparently is a PITA to work with. Oh wait, #16 can be also! Excellent job on the urban assault vehicle. Looks like it could be used in a post apocalypse movie like "The Omega Man" or "Damnation Alley" with the frontal addons. Looking forward to seeing the interior when you do it.

This detail took place at my garage in Butler (Morris County). I see that you are also from Northern NJ. Whereabouts are you?
