Howabout this for dead paint?

a 30 year old car which hasn't been washed or polished properly in decades, had been touched up with rattle cans and had for some reason caught some strange brown stains that won't come off with a pressure washer?

Yuk

So this one needed rubbing down with 1500 grit wet sandpaper and some sections needed 1200 or worse to get the stain marks off.

Then went over the whole car with Farecla G6 used wet and a power mop. Finished off with a single coat of Mer wax, not the best but I am not wasting good wax on bad paint.

Not perfect, but a heck of an improvement...

Took 3 weekends, but not working straight on it. Keeps raining :( Now it just freezes! I guess about 3 days working in all.

The interior is still to do. I gave it a wipe over and a vacuum out but nothing else yet.

The car was owned by an 87 year old man who had it from new.

I've had to redo the brakes a bit, replace the radiator and give it a good service and tune up.

As you can see from the photos I have a couple of other projects on the go too. Once I've got those finished I'll strip the Cortina out and redo the bodywork and give it some fresh paint.

How do you like the Farécla products?

Very good. The G3 Advanced Liquid is what I like best, you can go straight from 1500 paper to finish with one product. You don't need much either. It starts off coarse and breaks down to a fine paste. I used to use the G6 paste and then finish with a fine liquid, but no more. I used G6 on this car because I have about half a kilo left to use up! the G3 Advanced liquid is also very good for clean up - no mess after. :)

They also do some neat high-tech mops which are very good, vented so they don't take too much heat to the new paint.

I haven't tried their G-Mat matting liquid yet but looks great for small repair work.

This one is my old Vauxhall, resprayed in the original shade of silver in Celulose base and lacquer, finished with G3 Advanced liquid and then 3M Imperial Hand Glaze.

Nice work. Some of the auto body shops around here use Farecla only. I might have to give it a try, sounds like nice stuff.
