Dent puller

Yeah Brad, that's what I have. I went to one of those translation sites and it said something about glue. I was planning on using some Stoners Tarminator or water/alcohol to clean the area of wax instead of the acetone cleaner before attaching the tabs.

Sounds like a plan. I think I'm going to test it out on my dad's car first. Lets keep everyone posted as to the results we have if that is ok with everyone.

Brad

If the weather cooperates, I'll give it a try tomorrow on a friend's beater and post the results with pics. How do you decide on what size tab to use? I'm assuming you should use one that's a bit smaller than the ding.

If you don't have your Mini Dent Lifter by Thursday/Friday, Let me know. Most of the units shipped out of NJ, so those of you in the Mid-Atlantic will have your kits first. Two of the kits shipped out of CA to the CA residents.

Note on the ACETONE... don't use it! I used denatured alcohol and it worked fine. ACETONE is too harsh and will dull/remove paint quickly if you're not carefull.

Just got my dent puller. I am going to be gone tomorrow so won't get a shot at trying it out till Friday.

Anyone tried using it yet?

Thanks,

Sam

Ok, I'm 0/4 so far. What am I doing wrong? The glue just acts like it's not strong enough. First time, I cleaned it w/ denatured alcohol, then took one of the medium tabs and put enough glue on it to cover the whole thing. Stuck it right in the center of the dent, then sprayed compressed air on it and let sit for about 2 minutes. Then I put the lifter on the tab, gently squeezed and then the tab came off. It acted just like the glue just popped off the tab. The next 3 times, the whole thing just popped off and the glue stayed on the tab, but the small door ding is still there.

What is the outside temperature? If it is too hot outside, the glue will not hold. You may want to try multi-temp glue from Walmart. Also, try spraying with compressed air and waiting only 40 secs before pulling the dent (will allow more flexability). I just received mine so I'll try it this weekend.

Do you have to wait a bit after putting the glue on the tab before you attach it to the car? I'm a bit nervous about damaging the paint with that molten glue.

Thanks,

Glenn

it probably takes me 20 seconds before I put the glue onto the tab before it touches the surface, I've done it 5 times on one place now and the paint seems fine.

I was able to give the MDP a try in 5 dings with decent results. At first I was having the same problem as Greg, where the tab would just pop off taking the glue with it. Then I remembered David mentioning that you gently massage it out with about 10-15 squeezes. When I tried that method, I got better results. Not perfect but much less noticeable. It was about 70 degrees when I started, but it was quite humid, which I'm sure had an effect on the glue.

Here is a dent before:

I tried it again on this dent and I was able to get it a little better than the last picture shows but it was getting dark and my battery was dying.

I had a few small ones that had the same problem. These were on a small strip of metal between the rear glass and the license plate. There was not much give in the area and the tabs just popped right off. I may give that Walmart glue a try. As a side note, each time the tabs popped off, the glue came with the tabs. I never had the glue stay on the paint.

I only had time to try it on one small door ding on MY car. First couple of times, tab and glue popped off on the first squeeze. Then I used hot air gun to keep the glue hot while applying pressure to the tab; then compressed air to cool. As I pressed the tab, I also twisted it to get good contact. NO! Don't do that! With gentle sqeezes on the tool, the dent came, but now I have a small, circular scratch from the tab!

Dent's gone...
