Dent at edge!

Hi,

I have a dent at the edge of the body that has a little bit of paint shipped, but down to the metal! I noticed it about a month ago and have no idea where or when it happed. So it could've happened months ago.. I some rust where the paint is chipped and hope it didnt spread. I have no time to take it to a bodyshop and skeptical if they cant paint match perfectly. I have little body experience, and have never tooken a dent out. Since its at the very edge (on the RR quarter panel) I know I need to bang it out with a hammer/dolley. Should I take it too a pro since I've never done this? I have a Platinum Silver Metallice 04' WRX.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would reccomend letting the professionals handle it. It sounds pretty tricky to me.

Would you recommend a bodyshop or dealership and know roughly how much it would cost? I just want it to get paintmatched perfectly and kind of on a budget. If I could do it myself, I have touch-up paint that matches the OEM perfectly.

thx.

Looks like a easy fix, i would just bring it to the dealership if your not bodywork inclined. Though if you want to learn it wouldn't be hard to fix it youself. Do some research online on bodywork/dent repair and give it a shot. Whats the worst you can do put a dent in it? lol

because it is on a body seam, pdr is not possible. the only true fix is body work. check for a mobile paint repair. they can proboaly fix that for around $100.00.

where that dent is, thats a double panel.Meaning dent doesn't go all the way
to the other side. You need to drill one maybe two 1/8" holes just through first panel and get dent puller and pull dent. Then grind all paint and primer off
and rust.then treat metal for bare service and wipe clean, with prep-sol, then add bondo, sand, when satisfied with results, then prime two coats, sanding between both coats then paint, two, maybe three coats, second
coat is half paint half clear coat then finish with clear coat.Between each coat sanding is required.alot of work and matching that color will be hard if not experienced. My suggestion would be go to 2-3 body shops in area then to dealer and get estimates. Look for bodyshops that have hi-End cars in lot, most of them will be able to match paint and do job so its not noticable.

Thx. for the suggestions.

The bodyshop I went to quoted me $400 and 3 days to work on it. The $400 I dont mind because I'll prolly go with my insurance.. but I dont have 3 days for them to keep it since I drive it daily, and would'nt trust my car with any1 more than a day.

yeah I was thinking between 300-400 and should take 1 to 2 days only because of paint dry time. Not sure about your insurance but most have deductables and points and i would just pay for it out of my own pocket and keep insurance records clean.

Uh.....that's not entirly true. A good PDR tech CAN get some dents on body seams. But you'll have to take them car to inspect the damage. The dent shown above is a tough one but I have repaired many just like it. Look for a good tech in your area. They usually can be found lurking at the MB, Jag, etc type dealerships.
