i am trying to find out prices to charge at a major dealership. i know that since it is a dealership that i have to go below what i would charge for mobile detailing. i am just trying to figure out a fair price for the dealer that i would benefit from keeping in mind that i would also have to pay someone for the details and washes etc as well when i have employees working in the business too.

It is going to depend on what your expenses are, including the cost of paying your guys that work at the dealership. Obviously, you have to charge enough to cover your expenses and make a profit for the business.

$80-$100 for a basic reconditioning. Structure your agreement so they know there will be an upcharge for extras like heavy buffing, excessive pet hair, tar and overspray removal as well as large vehicles.

Work up a sub-contractor agreement as well so they and you have on paper what any charges will be and what the conditions are. I have a clause in my sub-contractor agreement for a certain number of cars per week to get their wholesale cost.

Example:

I charge $125 for a general recon (2 hours work... basically full interior and one-step exterior). I have a provision that they will receive a 20% credit on their weekly bill if I am guaranteed 5 vehicles for that billing cycle.

Also, make sure you have your payment terms on paper as well.

This is the only answer you need to hear. It has to work for you. It doesn't matter what anybody else charges, they aren't in your situation.

Whatever you do, remember, you can't make it up in volume!
