DB hacked again?

Hey all, I bought a new double halogen light and stand kit as a few of you guys have suggested and now I can see stuff I have never seen in my paint:eek: I sat it up in the garage on saturday and started QDing Z-6 to prepare for ZFX and Z5 combo to try and cover a few swirl marks I could see in direct sun light.

With this light being so bright it brings out every little thing and now I am depressed because I thought the paint was close to perfect.I can see a few long very shallow scatches and in a few spots some sort of a mild film on the paint. These scratches and films can not be seen in direct sun or floresent lights.

Is it possible to keep the paint perfect on an everyday driver and should I be concerned about something I have to look this hard to find?I would just like some honest opinions on this am I being to picky or not picky enough? This has really got me wondering about how perfect paint can be.Thanks for the support:up

Todd,

I hear you buddy, bright lights can be a real eye opener. The fluorescent lights in my garage show stuff that makes me ill. Don't worry. When you drive your vehicle there are NO bright light sources following you around and your vehicle will look great in the sunlight and moonlight. Only you and your vehicle know the truth.;)

I think that generally speaking perfection is for show cars. However you can keep your paint looking excellent on your daily driver. Don't let the new lights become your master. Use them as a tool to improve your detailing. Keep in mind that most people will not notice the difference between a 90 point car and a 100 point car. The difference will be detected primarily by yourself. So do what makes you happy.

From personal experience my halogen light showed me some ugly scratchs on my black car that otherwise couldn not be noticed. That allowed me to work on these areas more but they aren't going to be perfect. Like I said earlier though everybody else just notices that the car is very clean and shiney.

Yep, yep, yep! When I detailed my car outside under the shade outside, it looked perfect. But once I moved it into my garage and turned on the multiple fluorescents and halogens, I saw swirls, marring, industrial fall-out... all sorts of things.

I immediately clayed the car as best as I can to get rid of the dots --> "." but they just reappeared in a week or so. Then I polished the paint with PPCL and a plush microfiber towel. That eliminated some of the minor-swirls. After spending a few hours trying to get it as close to “perfectâ€ as I can… I stopped.

I learned that you may want perfection, but armed with powerful lighting, perfection might be best left for show cars, not daily-drivers. And as Short Cut said, to everyone else, it looks shiny!

I know exactly what you mean. Its like "what did I do THAT for?" But the better you can see, the better you can perfect your techniques - and even though you probably WON'T get rid of everything you can see under those lights, trust me, your car will look better outdoors than it ever did before.

I think you are being too picky inspecting the car under those lights. Stick with what you can see in outdoor sunlight for satisfaction's sake, and like carguy said, use the halogen to try and perfect your techniques.

I personally like to use the "sticking your head in the sand" approach. Just wax or polish your car in your driveway in the evening and finish up just as it gets dark out. Wow, car looks absolutely perfect at night with just enough light to glow in the moon's rays. Of course I'm just kidding, I remember my first inside car show, I thought my car was perfect until I pulled it into the display area under the giant flouresent lights. OMG, what a humiliation! With all the swirl marks and scratche it looked like I polished it with with Lava soap. Immediately after the car show, I took it to a friend's auto restoration shop and had it professionally buffed out. At the same time, I threw away all the bags of "100% cotton" towels I bought in bags of 20 or so. Now use only Cannon Charisma towels and am going to change to some premium MF towels soon.

Totally agree with the others. I wouldn't worry about what you see under intense lighting. I would just worry what I can see on everyday or "normal lighting." Focus more on real world situations such as sunlight or the fluorescent lighting at gas stations and other such places.

Don't worry so much! This defeats the joy of detailing. Laters

When I try to go to DB, either by my saved link or via Google, this link is where I'm directed: www dot laserengravings dot info/forum
What gives?

Sorry Richy, but I had to remove the part of the link just to be safe from all these Malware, Spam and Hacks trying to trojan horse their way into this forum by a harmless post. It a shame that these folks got nothing better to do these days. Very sorry to see this happen to any forum out there.

While Phil & I seem to have a major disagreement on what a 1 day detail school should cost. All in all, Phil seems to be a pretty decent dude. This news SUCKS :-B I'm sure he will have it back up and running in no time for all the newbs to enjoy :Innocent:

I know Phil pretty well, and he does not deserve this. When I was a real newb, and wanted to polish my BMW (when I first got it), he loaned me his PCXP to use.

Nothing worse then a computer geek with too much time on his hands.:-B

Websites get hacked?..

The world is an imperfect place?.lol\m/
As long as nobody screws with my cigars and whiskey, I'm tolerant of the other problems.
