DACP vs. Meg. #80 or #83 Which is best for removing swirls, defects?

I'm using a PC, yellow pad and have been using DACP. Car is 16 years old, single stage paint and severly swirled and oxidized. DACP has been working but it takes me AT LEAST two times/section, pressing fairly hard and going very slow with a yellow pad to remove the swirls. It also leaves a bit of a haze as well.

Would #80 or #83 work better for removing swirls? I'd like (ideally) to be able to remove them with 1 application and not have to press so hard or go so slow. Is this possible or is the only option to go rotary?

Thanks!

I primarily use 83, 80 and 82.

What kind of pad is a yellow pad?

With #83 i use a cutting pad. Which always removes all the defects, sometimes i have to hit it a few times. Then i follow up with #80 and a polishing pad to remove the haze from 83.

I dont think you are going to get a perfect panel after one pass if its as you say "severly oxidized and swirled" its not a miracle process where one swipe and everything is perfect....it may take 2, 3, or 4 passes to get the panel to your liking...and it you are using a megs yellow pad, you need something stronger with more cut to it....like the lake country orange or the like...I used to use megs burgandy with 83 and got really good results, but when I would go to 80 and a yellow pad, I didnt like the results....

Yeah, multiple passes to remove marring is, IMO a smart way to do it. If you get more aggressive than that and do it in one pass you'll often be *more* aggressive than necessary. Especialy on ss, which is usually a little soft. I'd be as gentle as possible so you don't have to repaint any time soon.

A little hazing after DACP/#83 is normal and using #80 to clear that up is a popular procedure.
