DACP #83 on 1987 Corvette

I ran into a problem today using DACP #83 on a 87 Corvette. The Vet was in the shade and cool to the touch. Customer had just purchased this vehicle and wanted it detailed before he drove it. I applied the #83 by hand in a small section. When removing it with a terry cloth towel, it was a nightmare. It acted like the Vet was hot and dried to quick. I never had a problem with #83 before so it confused me. I pulled out my trusty porter cable and applied on a setting of 4. When it was almost dry I started to remove it and the same thing happened. Some areas I could not remove the #83 so I had to use some #3 to clean up the area.

I have seen this on boats and RVs when they are really oxidized. This Vet was not oxidized, but had a lot of water spots from prev. owner who did not take real good care of the Vet. This is why I used #83 to remove the water spots. So has anyone had this problem before?

Thanks for the information.

Uh oh, I was thinking of doing my dad's '89 with DACP :scared:

Ill give one panel a shot, any sign of being a PITA , then I'll switch over to something else from the stash.

Bill D,

I wouldn't worry about trying it. I used DACP for the first time on my single stage MX-5 last weekend, it worked really well. It was also my first time using a PC and an orange pad. I set it to 5 and worked it in until it was almost gone then wiped off with microfibre. No problems other then running out of time, so I couldn't do as many passes as I wanted to.

I usually run the pc to 5 when using DACP. I found that lower speed than 5 doesn't seem to work the DACP well and leave a thick residue no matter how long i work it. The speed of the pc seems to help break down the product which make it a lot easier to remove.

Sounds odd :nixweiss I've never had a problem with it and I've used it on some really beat up surfaces.

Did you try claying first? Maybe there was something on the surface that it didn't agree with?

I apply everything by hand and I also have a C4. As you can tell by the name. If the car isn't to bad, Id try the usual asortment, wash, clay, polish, KlearCote VM, NXT, P21S or S100. Always gives good results for me.
