DA Microfiber System....Black Silverado...

Hey all..I figure several forum members may have a car trailer that they use with their show cars. I am in the market for one and am debating between a open or a closed bed trailer. Any tips, advice, or past experiences?? :nixweiss

Thanks in advance..

Well, for towing show cars, you should probably go with a closed trailer. Think if it rains...

But I'm not sure you're going to be able ot haul a covered with your 4runner or F150... So that's something to take into consideration.

I know a closed trailer would be the best but I will be getting an open one. I was referring to an open or closed bed. Some say the open bed is better cause you can work underneath the car while its on the trailer. Others say a closed bed is better since it protects the bottom of the car from road grime. Just wanted to know what others had purchased.

If you're going to get an open trailer, you should get one with the protective shield on the front of the trailer. It's like a wall that prevents the front of your car from debris. It's also shaped to be aerodynamic.

I have been hauling motorcycles on trailers for years. We make a couple of group trips to ride dirt bikes in the desert every year. Initially I used a flat bed trailer however a couple of years ago I bought a Haulmark enclosed trailer.

What a difference! First of all what's nice is the added security when stopping overnight or at a restaurant. I haven't put any stickers on the trailer and it is white so it looks kinda generic. Then I also enjoy the weather protection. Furthermore I can use it for storage when I'm not using it for towing.

I have noticed that when I see enclosed trailers for sale on the used market they are at a considerable discount compared to new. That might be an option if you can find a used enclosed trailer. Also most trailers are used once in while and don't get very much mileage on them.

The other manufacturers of enclosed trailers that I considered are www.paceamerican.com and www.wellscargo.com

Bretfraz,

Suggesting a trailer like that, I'm curious.

Do you own stock in Mother's or EO?? 'Cuz you'd need a lot of

chrome polish to keep it sparklin'! LOL:D

The enclosed trailers are definitely out of my price range. I think I am going with a Bri-Mar 16ft open bed. It is an upgrade trailer with dovetail ramps and removeable wheel wells. Should fit the bill nicely :D

Here?s a black Silverado I did several months ago.
New DA Microfiber pads, Meguiar?s G110v2, DA Compound. Finished up with the new Finishing Wax from Meguiar?s.

Nick, Great job first of all.
Second, I was looking at MOL where you have this thread and if I recall correctly you said you use the edge of your pad to correct then put it flat to finish?

I'm a bit different then most detailers out there. I don't work an area x amount of passes, then move onto the next area. I tend to work things inch by inch, using the outer edge of the pads surface. Then when I'm satisfied with the cutting results, I'll lay the pad flat and do a couple of light passes across the area I just worked, without using anymore product.

Not sure if that makes sense or not. Much easier to show someone how I do things then to type it out lol!

how do you do this with a DA? Doesnt the pad stop rotating if it is on its edge? I can visualize the techniqe but just dont understand it I guess. Do you care to elaborate a bit on it?

How's that finish compare to the black Colorado that had you tearing your hair out a few years ago trying to get 205 to finish? Would you expect this might be a good recipe for that kind of super-soft finish?

TL

You mean MY Colorado? lol! That thing is the biggest pain in the rear than any other vehicle I've ever seen! Too bad I committed to buy it before I actually knew what was going on with it :(

I'm planning a detail on it in the near future. I'll let you know how much hair I have left over lmao!

Man, I really wish I knew how to explain it. People are always asking me "how the heck are you doing that?" but I really have a hard time explaining it. So much easier to just show you lol

hmm well Im not trying to pin more work on you but I see you have a Cannon Rebel (I think that is what I make out) If it is one that takes video maybe you could shoot a quick video of you doing it. Id be really interrested to see how this techniqe work because I have always heard and done keeping the pad flat with a DA.

XSi, no video :(

Plus I have never shot any video of myself. Afraid I'm a bit camera shy :o Maybe I'll get brave here pretty soon and get someone to shoot some video of myself so I'm able to better explain my working technique. I'll see what I can do. But don't expect too much out of me ;) lol

 well Id love to see the techniqe so when you do make the video post it here on TID please

That's right, you bought it then discovered you couldn't wash it without imparting swirls! Perfect vehicle for a detailer to be seen in. (NOT!) X_X

That thing may leave you follically-challenged but the experience and your outside-the-box thinking led me to the solution for my super-soft Harley clear. 85RD finishes well with a cutting pad, 105 finishes well with a finishing pad. Until you posted about using yellow LC to get 205 to finish I was headed for Hair Club for Men too!

Washing or QD leaves me with marring as well. Way I found to minimize it is to touch it with nothing but a Cobra or Little Blue WW. I blow dry and use a WW with liberal FK425 and remove wax or polish residue with Final Inspection and a WW. Might try that with the Colorado. Or go see Earl Schieb.

Great turn around with those heavy swirls.
Good looking finishing on every panel.
Bringing out the good use and results of the Meguiars DA Microfiber System!!!!
A+ Job!!!!!
