Cyclo on the way!!!!

I've been pretty disappointed with my PC lately so I bit the bullet and ordered a Cyclo. I put a coat of PB's EX-P on my wife's car yesterday and the PC would barely rotate under it's own weight.

I suspect a problem with the PC, and after reading nothing but good reviews about the Cyclo, I decided it would be a good tool in the arsenal whether the PC was on its way out or not.

Now, if the Cyclo doesn't seem to help matters, well, I guess I better work on my technique! I know black is tricky, but I shouldn't be having the trouble I've been having.

you should be more tahn happy with a Cyclo...its all i use and works great IMO....does alot of work for you without runnin the risk of burning and what not....

one thing that is nice about a Cyclo too is you dont hafta have any kind of technique at all...let it do its thing!

You made the right decision!! Once you get it and give it a try, you'll wonder how you ever made do with a dual action sander!! :woot:

Excellent news with regard the Cyclo!! I hope to be getting my hands on soon too.

I am very close to choosing a Cyclo after my PC packed up working, just to confirm though, it has all the saftey advantage of a PC but just more power for dealing with bigger problems??

Thanks and i am sure you will enjoy the cyclo.

Yes, that's correct. Other advantages: it's quieter, vibrates less, doesn't bog down due to compound/polish/pad used, or pressure applied - and it looks MUCH cooler to boot!

Disadvantages: it's a bit heavy (though an advantage on horizontal surfaces); the biggest one is that on certain curved or "awkward" surfaces (ie side mirrors), you cannot get both heads to work on it at once - dual action "PC"s and rotaries are easier to use here. Overall, though, an awesome machine, as you'll soon find out! :grinno:

Ya know, I've been debating this problem with mine lately. I feel like I can't put hardly any weight on it b/c if I do, it stops spinning in the circular motion.

I've been tempted to record a video of my using my PC to see what other's think. I still need to test my theory on my weight scale first though.

Congrats! You're going to love it...Welcome to the Cyclo Cult haha Once you use it you're guaranteed to spread the word and say how much you love it :) It always happens :xyxthumbs

A few random thoughts on the Cyclo and people's "PC bogging" issues.

Yeah, the PC does bog down like that, nothing wrong with anybody's machines. Using 4" pads will solve the problem, it won't bog with those. But it's still a PC...as percynjpn noted, there are limitations to using a sander to polish cars and that's what the PC was designed to be, a sander.

Yeah, the Cyclo is, IMO, a vastly superior tool, but there are a few caveats: it doesn't work well for me with AIO, flashes the product too fast and makes it hard to buff off; it won't do certain panel contours, the hood of my XJS being a perfect example; recent Cyclos seem to have a lot of cord-related issues, so keep an eye on that electrical cord and send it to the vendor or Steve at CycloToolmakers if you have problems.

I like to practice rotary-use motions with the Cyclo (figure-8s, not letting it pause at the end of side-to-side strokes, etc.) as it makes for great, and safe, practice. It's a little rotary-like in how it handles, so you you can start getting the feel for that and develop some muscle memory without having to worry about all the trouble you can get into with a rotary.

Make sure the rubber boots for the velcro pads are on the heads right, othewise the pads will really rub together. Some pads simply rub a bit anyhow, no biggie IMO.

Have extra pads, between the small size and the aggressive nature of the machine they tend to load up kinda fast. You can stop, clean them, and spin them dry (the pads don't fly off like with the PC), but it's a lot easier to just mount fresh pads and keep working.

As Accumulator pointed out there are a few negatives but they are far outweighed by the many positives. I have not even taken the PC out of the box since receiving and using the Cyclo.

If you dont mind sharing, where did you puchase from and what pad selections did you make?

Put in 12 hours today and didn't want anybody to think I started a thread and not respond. I got my stuff from Autogeek. I've got 2 each yellow, orange, white, blue, and gray 4" LC pads. Accumulator, even with the 4" pads I had problems. It did work better, but sub-par for what I expected. I used an LC gray pad with Natty's Blue and had trouble keeping it spinning. I think if it has trouble with that, somethings not right. Hoping for good weather on Friday so I can work on the Civic. Up close it looks horrible. In the sun it looks horrible. In the shade from a couple feet it looks awesome. :chuckle:

I know my technique is nowhere near the level of 90% of the folks here, but I'd think the results would be better than what I'm seeing. If the cyclo shows I'm at fault I may seek out someone nearby for some hands on help.

Same here! One other thing I'd recommend to any user is giving the Cyclo wool pads a try - they are excellent for stronger cutting, far more aggressive than the yellow cutting pads. For paint that needs stronger cutting, my new favorite regimen is a compound like 1Z Extra with the wool pads, followed by 1Z PP or Optimum Compound with orange pads, finished up with a final polish with the white pads.

As a side note, I recently learned how to use a rotary from a friend who is a Car Beauty Pro licensed detailer, and I just bought a Hitachi single action (have yet to use it). I can't, however, compare how much more aggressive the rotary wool is compared to the Cyclo, because it seems that detailers and body shops over here tend to prefer finely braided COTTON pads for the heavy work instead of wool, so I've only tried the cotton ones.

Anyway, the Cyclo wool pads are recommended.

Just got home with the Cyclo. What a beast!! It looks like something my Kirby vac would've given birth to. I was going to use it Friday on the Civic but have an appointment to test drive a new Camry instead. One things for sure, the next car won't be black.

you people . . . stop talking about this dam cyclo.

first it was a portercable.

then it was a hitcahi rotary.

now my amex card has enough avalible credit on it to buy a cyclo . . .

this discussion is bringing me close to that point we all get to where we say . . . "ahh, F^%K it . . whats another 400 bucks . . . "
