Hey all, long time lurker from way back that could use the help of the community on selecting a modern coating to protect two new wheelsets that I`m going to be getting mounted/installed soon. First set is chrome-plated, the second set has a standard clearcoat.
For the first set, because they are triple-chrome plated, I`m looking to protect them as best as possible from pitting/corrosion. These wheels are freshly plated from Sensei6 which is a well known powdercoating and wheel refinishing company based out of CA. As far as I know, their plating process is true triple-chrome, meaning the outter layer is chromium and not a clearcoat. I bought them 2nd-hand-new, so I`m giving Sensei6 a call on Monday to confirm. The second set have a clearcoat on them from the factory, so i`m not as worried about those but will be coating them all the same for ease of cleaning and protection from road salt/chemicals.
Both wheels will see HPDE track use in spring/summer months, as well as daily driving year-round in the north east (NJ/NY area) where salted roads are the norm over the winter, so I`m looking to give them the best defense possible.
If my priority is protection and longevity, which wheel coatings would folks recommend for such an application? I`m happy to use toppers at regular intervals to keep it going.
Bonus points for having good ease-of-use and ability to withstand higher temperatures (as the wheels will get pretty hot from hard braking during track use), but as long as application is not terribly fickle, I don`t mind.
I`ve gathered a rough list of products to consider just from some casual scrounging of the forums, but unsure which would be most appropriate for what I`m looking to achieve:
- 22PLE VM1
- Kamakazi Stance
- CarPro DLUX
- The various Opti-Coat products (Opti-coat 2.0? Opti-coat metal?)
- GTechniq C5
- Pinnacle Black Label Diamond Wheel Coating
- CQuartz
- I`m sure there`s a ton more and many that I`m not aware of...
Thank you for your time and advice!
EDIT:
Some obligatory wheel porn B). First set are chrome plated TE37s going on a 2nd gen BRZ, second set are diamond dark gunmetal ZE40`s going on a MKV Supra.
An of course, some pictures of the cars themselves.
