Crazy film on inside windshield

Brother has a fairly new car, 2013 to be exact. Has a film or something from factory on inside windshield. Tried couple different sprays, stoners and couple others. Everything seems to make it worse! Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

did your brother buy one of those dealer installed protection packages? They sometimes put that on the inside as well.

Sounds like off-gasing from the dashboard after it got some direct sun. I've always gotten that with new cars (especially Fords). They make a chamois ball, about the size of a baseball that looks like a bunch of shredded chamois pieces all over it. Can find them at some autoparts stores and probably on Autogeek. It will take that right off.

First, clean it with some all purpose cleaner, allow it to dwell, keeping wet, for 4 or 5 minutes. Wipe off, and then clean with a glass cleaner.

If you don't know what the chemical makeup of your all purpose is, suggest you cover the dash before doing so. Some are very caustic and can discolor the dash.

I haven't tried this yet, but what about a magic eraser?

I've been trying to clean some film off of a 13' as well.

opinions???

I worked with Ford's Pre-Delivery Centers, supplying chemicals for years. Mira Loma, Bencia and Wilmington, from 87 until 98.

The problem was common for new vehicles that set in the hot sun for a couple of weeks while in storage.

It's an off gassing of plastizers, silicone's from the window sealants, etc.

A good all purpose, misted on, allowed to dweel, then wiped/agitated with a towel and then glass cleaner process, took care of it.

I had that problem the other day on a new Honda and Sprayway Glass Cleaner worked great. A shot a pretty heavy layer of it over the window and then wiped with a slightly damp towel followed by a dry one. Quick and effective.

IPA it and call it done! When glass cleaner doesnt want to work well for me, IPA/distilled water makes me wonder why I even have a glass cleaner!!! LOL

A safe all purpose cleaner (APC) for glass -

• 8 oz isopropyl alcohol (IPA)

• 8 oz distilled water

• 0.25 oz distilled white vinegar

I agree the sprayway. I was surprised it worked as well as it did. I spray on a nappy microfiber to wipe, then dry with a second towel.

To keep from the gasses becoming so stuborn again, coat the inside of the glass with something like klasse aio. Apply with a foam applicator with light pressure and wipe off right away. Make sure to wipe it all off really well to prevent streaks. I usually have a glass cleaner moistened glass towel in hand durig my first time driving at night. Oncoming traffic will show the streaking you missed during the day.

Once done I have zero outgas sitcking and almost no fingerprints. Makes for an easy cleaning of the backlight (rear glass).

Oh Lordy please be careful. Products like this have some very persistent ingredients which will tend to stick to glass even better than paint work. That sounds fab but they are hydrophobic - that is totally the opposite of an anti-fog coating. So if someone has a potential issue with fogging over the winter, doing like you say will make it much worse. Worse still is that those residues are incredibly hard to get off and on the inside, there is not really the choice to take the rotary to it.

As a manufacturer, we specifically recommend against this because it is a potential safety issue.

I'd like to learn more about this, then. What specificaly in the kaio sticks to the glass? My understanding is there is no anti-fog coatings on oem interior glass. Further, fog is an issue of hvac, not the glass. If the car has a fog issue it is usually becuase the recirculating flapper door or the a/c is not working.

Never had an issue with fog, if anything there is less fog and it clears up faster once the ac is on. The lack of deposits on the glass make for less humidity buildup, even in my motorcycle helmets.
