Craigslist Car Scams?

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
Over this last two weeks I have replied to several car ad's on CL. In two ad's that looked like good buys I replied with an email per the request of the seller...the email that CL gives you not a personal one...in both of those cases I got back a very descriptive reply about the car and instructing me to send them my contact info and they would be using eBay's protection program.

The car in this last case was located in Orlando FL.

I get the feeling that this is a scam.

Anyone here have experience with eBay's protection program?

I looked at ebay and it is something that they have but seemed for transactions threw their site.

Here is what I got back from this person...it reads almost verbatim of the other reply that I got.

Hi and thanks for your interest,
The 2003 GMC Envoy is in excellent condition. No scratches or any kind of damage. Transmission is Automatic and it has 63,044 miles. If you are interested in buying it the total price is $3,000 including shipping and handling. The car will be shipped from Orlando, FL on my expense and will be delivered directly to your address. The transaction will be made under eBay's protection. Please come back with your full name and address for shipping and I'll response all the questions may you have and I'll give you all the details what you need.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I like the ones were they want to send you a butt load of money and then have you only return a portion of it

Yea and its being shipped to London:D

Windy over there today? it is here in RP

I played along with one of those scams once and even got the check in the mail. Took it to an old friend of mine who works as a teller, and she checked the account. The account had insufficient funds, but she told me in secrecy that the holder of the account had like 40 the open accounts with butt loads of money in them.

Wow a 2003 SUV with only 66K miles and no problems, plus no scratches in the paint for only 3K??? Where do I sign up...

Always.

Did you feel the Quake last night?

I did only because I was standing still in the kitchen at the time and felt something move...then looked at the ceiling fan and the pull chains where swing a bit...Having lived in CA all my life I can tell right away when one happens

Yeah me to.

It was kind of funny though as i was sitting on my bed and the house and bed made a funny noise and the wife tells me stop kicking the bed. My reply was it's not me it's a Earthquake, and then it really began shaking pretty good. The epicenter was like 5 miles from my house.
First time my daughter felt one and she got prettty scared.
Not bad really since we have lived her al our lioves and she is 17 and this is the first one she has actually experianced.

My son who is 12 felt his first at dinner one night...the china cabinet was making a racket...his eyes where as big as basketballs..:D

Ahahaha I saw those eyes last night.

She looked something like this

Ha ha ha!!

After the loma Preita quake I haven't felt anything that was even close...being that I have lived here all my life I really don't pay attention any longer

Funny thing, I knew the ads were fake, but I didn't know the specific scam they were trying to pull so I actually posted the question in a CL forum today before seeing this thread. From what Beemerboy posted, I'm guessing they process the transaction through a fake/forged escrow site, and probably ask you to wire a deposit via Western Union.

NO what they do is have you deposit the money into a escrow account...then give you bogus shipping info...take the cash from the account and close it
