Could S&W'ing be Dangerous To A Car's Finish ?

Someone mentioned that they're wary of using S&W when the salt/gravel is heavy in the winter. I didn't think of that....if you're just pushing the stuff around, you could conceivably scratch your finish alot.

Would having a few coats of sealant (SG, EX-P) mitigate that somewhat? Or should I really once-over the car with my eyes to make sure there's hardly any particles adhering to the car finish? If there are, forget the S&W, I guess, or take out a hose and use that.
 
If you are really worried about it, I would take it to a do-it-yourself wash and just spray the car off with water and drive it home where you can give it a good washing or S&W'ing. That should alleviate the problem and your concerns.
 
Of course S&W can be dangerous if your car is covered with grit but so is anything else you do at that point. There is a point where you will be better off reaching for the hose but exactly where that point lies is matter of debate and comes down to a personal preference. My personal guideline is that if it looks muddy, reach for the hose.

:yeah ...the Spray and Wipe could do the job, but it would be a tremendous waste of product and microfiber;)
 
I have used S&W on a fairly dirty car (my beater) without any issues. But, like Poorboy himself says, it required more product and left me with some dirty MF towels. Originally, I was bordering on giving the car a full wash but being exceptionally lazy that day, I was swayed toward using S&W.
