Costco MF towels

I was in Costco the other night and came across these MF towels. A 12 pack was just under 9 dollars. They are 16x16 and appear to be fairly plush. Made in China from a 85 x 15 blend. They passed the cd test with no marring. The only drawback I could see is they only come in yellow. The blue towel in the picture is a Pakshak I not sure of the green one. Hopefully I will get a chance to try them out this weekend. Mark

:hm Call me skeptical .... but I'm finding it hard to believe that these cheapies are of comparable quality to the PakShak, MFTech, and others we use. Hoping someone will give this a critical look.

True, for paint. But for interior wipedowns, windows, rim polish, you can't go wrong with microfiber, especially if they're decent quality for the price.

Wow..I might have to head to Costco to check those out. I am sure they are comparable to the 5 for $5.00 ones at Walmart. I agree they don't compare to the Pakshak or Neatitems towels etc.

But you can't beat them for the price for door jambs, windows, wheels, etc.

Now wait a minute! Wasn't the test to see if the MF's are of good quality to rub them on a cd? Apparently it passed, so why the "Can't be as good as a "PakShak" MF" comment's?:nixweiss I'm not starting a flame war. I'm just curious. By the way. I have some Pak Shak MFs and WW's on the way.

If the MF's do not cause marring on a CD, and they seem plush, what is the problem in using them? There is no problem! Go ahead and use them! Just because it is not a recognized brand here on Autopia, does not make them a bad towel.

And Brian, they are not in Canada's Costco; I was there an hour ago!!:angry

I went out to Costco last week to pick up a set for my engine and wheels and was pretty dissapointed.......they were sold out.:(

Yeah I wouldn't have even bothered checking. :p I was just there last week anyway.

They do have some new 3M MF towels specifically aimed at kitchen use though. They're white/cream with a terry woven square pattern (flat in between squares) with different coloured borders. A pack of 6 for $12.99 I think, 30x32cm. I didn't get any though.

I totally agree with you guys! Been using Microfibers from the Dollar Tree for a few months now and I have had no problems with my paint. I was going to order some towels online but these work fine although they are a little small. I do not see how people can make comments about the quality of these towels without actually trying them or waiting to hear a review first.

The last time I got some 3M MF's from Costco, and they were vrey disappointing. They linted like crazy. They worked well for wiping up, but for final wiping, they were terrible, because of the amount of lint they left behind. They were WORSE than cotton terry's. However, if these ones don't lint, and we already know they don't scratch, they'd be a great buy! Too bad they're not at the Canadian stores.:(

The expensive MFs come from the same part of the world as the cheapy MFs: either china or korea. In fact, they probably come from the exact same factories.

Also, I wouldn't be concerned about the CD test at all. From my experience, anything will scratch a CD. Give me one of your fancy MFs and I'll bet you I can create some fine marring on a CD. Of course, you have to turn the CD in a particular angle with the right lighting to see the fine marks.

Hi Gary,

It is very funny how two different people get very different results using the same product. I have never had a problem at all with my Costco 3M Scotch Brite MF's; no linting in any way. I have close to 100 MF's (many different brands) and can honestly say that I really like the 3M's MF. It is not plush as some of the others but it tends to wipe off difficult to remove polishes/glazes like #7 with little difficulty. They passed the CD scratch test and have been washed at least 40 times each already and look as good as new.

I am not totally convinced that the towels need to be as plush as some insist on. For example, the quality of the MF is the most important factor to me. I realize the argument that a plush towel can lift and hold the residue in the deep pile. But what about the way the MF removes the residue in the first place? Is the product being removed or is it being dragged across the surface before lifting it off. The firm nature of the 3M MF, I believe adds a little extra stiffness which will not flatten out under heavy pressure. Just IMHO! :)

Again, if the towel is of decent quality ( by look and feel) and does not scratch a CD (another contraversial practice), use it!! I am not stuck on brand names. I will use what ever gives me the best results possible!

Just my 1.73 cents Canadian!!

Cheers!

Tim

"Just my 1.73 cents Canadian!!"

Doesn't the exchange work the other way around? IE shouldnt it be your 2.73 cents?

Oh and another thing, Tome Green was funny at one time, not anymore, can you guys take hime back now?

:nixweiss

LOL!!! I figured that since your .02 cents is really like our .0173 cents!! But if you want to give me more credit than your .02 cents, I will take it!!:D

Oh, and Tom Green, NOPE, he is your problem now!!:xyxthumbs
