Correct way to use Klasse SG

I plan to use AIO and SG on my black 04 E320. This will be my first time to give it an exterior detail job. It's my first new car so I want to do it correctly. I have AIO, SG, S100 and PC7336.

Here is my plan, please correct me if I am wrong. Your inputs are greatly appreciated.

- Washed

- Clay

- Dry with mfs

- Apply AIO - I plan to use black pad (from AutoGeek) to be safe. Any recommendation?

- Apply SG - Black pad? Recomendation?

- Wait at least 8 hrs.

- Wash car again

- Apply 2nd coat of SG.

- Wait at least 8hrs

- Apply S100 by hand and remove by mfs.

*Final note: I have been research and reading on how to use SG. I got mix review. Some treads said that you should wait over night to clean/remove the residue. Is it correct? How long do I have to wait to clean of the residue.

What is the different between black pad and white pad?

Apply AIO 2x, first with a white polishing pad then the 2nd with the black pad. 2X application is used to guarantee complete coverage. If you are an SG newbie, I suggest hand application to ensure THIN! application. The first SG coat should be left on at least 12 hours before buff off, just like the bottle instructions say. This is to ensure the best bonding possible with the paint. Subsequent layers of SG can be done using WOWO method (wipe on-wipe off) due to its ease of use and equivalent results. Wait at least 24 hours between coats. You can apply a coat without washing if car is left in garage but washing is a must if car was driven or outdoors. May I suggest at least 3 to 5 layers of SG for maximum pop. If you must, apply S100 after allowing the last layer of SG to cure for 24 hours. Personally, I wouldn't top SG with S100 on black but highly recommend AIO/Souveran on black. The Klasse/S100 combo is my fave on silver though.

Thank Beastie for the advice. I will follow your instruction. So you don't recommend S100 on black. What are over the counter wax that I can use to help out the SG to bring out the deep black on my car? Meg#16? I hear good thing about it. I saw it Pepboy (there was rumor that it was discontinue).

You recommended AIO/Souveran on black. Which mean after I finished couple layer of SG. I put another layer of AIO?

Not trying to nullify previous suggestion

BUT

-apply AIO and SG in shade if at all possible

- Using a 4" yellow foamie, primed with a spritz of EOW&S, work one body panel at a time, or even just 1/2 a panel. No more than a dime size dab of AIO at any time, but as foamie get "wet" with product, use a little lesss. About every second body panel give the foamie another spritz of EOW&S

-Dampen a clean MF with water and wring it out almost complete (it you wring it out completely, you would only get about 3 more tablespoons of water. Fold in half, then into 1/3. Drizzle a THIN line of SG onto the MF - more than 1/8 inch wide to almost too much. Wipe a 1/2 panel at a time and IMMEDIATELY remove with a clean dry MF. First coat can streak a bit, so just hit them again the whe water/SG MF applicator again and rub a little quicker after application to de-streak. If you have SONUS Acrylic Spritz, that is even better for de-streaking, even after a couple of hours

As described, it is almost exactly Bill North's Wipe On Wipe Off method. I used it dozens of times without ANY problems, even in 95% humidity and 95 degrees in full sun. This black Lightning was donw in full sun at those temps and humidity

Right Click pix once to isolate thumbnail and right click again to get HI resolution.

Afterwards, wait a minimut of 24 hours before adding another SG layer. Shine maxxes out somewhere between 3-5 (color dependent) SG layer. Then you can top with either SONUS acrylic Spritz, UPP or a Carnuma like Souveran or P21S. If you go the carnube route, that will be the end of adding SG. However you can go back with AIO and start completely over.

BTW, my sig is SERIOUS

Thanks all,

I will be detailing it in my garage. I will try both methods by Gonzo and Beastie. Per Gonzo's method, I have to apply AIO by hand.

I will try both and see which one "fit" me better. I will surely post some pics after it's done.

Gonzo,

Is that Ray Lewis, football player's Ford SVT?

here are the results of aio sg x 3 and souvarain on black and red

I normally do not apply AIO or SG with the PC. However, I have used AIO once or twice and find that it IS easier to apply thinner with the PC but you will be using more AIO on the pad.

And with SG, I always do by hand...just to make sure I have full control of amount.

Klasse SG and Autoglym Extra Gloss is very water like product the best way I used these products is with a spray bottle with a foam pad and one panel @ a time.

I second newagain's suggestion. Get a small clear plastic spray bottle. Walmart has 1.5 oz spritz bottles in the beauty section. You can put ~1 oz. in the bottle and it will help you gage how much AIO/SG you apply as you go around the vehicle. You can either spray onto a mf pad or I recommend using a mf bonnet on the PC. Using the PC in this way will help you apply a very thin layer of sealant.

AIO is a true WOWO application. SG can also be applied WOWO without any wait. I prefer this method and most report no difference in longevity compared to a long cure time then removal.

Some autopians prefer to let SG cure for 8+ hours and then remove it. The longer you let the SG cure the easier it will be to remove.

I love AIO/SG topped with P21S on my black car.:xyxthumbs

Is there an over the counter wax that I can use over SG to enhance the black? Dashotgun, your cars look so NICE. Souveran is out of my price range. $69/each and it sold out. Wow. If I couldn't find anything better than S100, I will use S100 over SG. How about Meg #16?

Don't think he is saying you shouldn't use S100 on black, he is saying he prefers Souveran. I love S100 on my black car, gives beautiful reflections. I would use the S100 with no hesistation, your car will look great. The Souveran will give you a wetter look, but it comes at a huge price.

tyltan, you must try the new Reflections range (the old one was great as well). IMO, its the best OTC wax/sealant available...as good as most boutique waxes at a fraction of the cost.

Since you want a LSP without cleaners, try Reflections Top Coat. Its a hybrid carnauba/synthetic with great durability. It creates the depth and gloss you want without removing previous products.

(Sorry for the size of this pic:  )

The Ray Lewis Silver Lightning - Ray is currently a cabinet maker in Houston, but has played football - I just don't know if he went Pro or just the high school scene. He is a hugh bear of a guy (read "one-man-wall" about 320 pounds with not much fat on him) who makes a 4x T-shirt look very small. Some injury took him out of the sport, but I've only known him as a cabinet maker in his family business.

So the "Top Coat" contains no cleaners? I saw Reflections advertized, but I thought it only came as a one step product... I will have to try "Top Coat" ! Thanks for the clarification.:xyxthumbs

I think everyone has their own favorite method of application for SG.

For me what works best is to apply each layer with a foam applicator as thinly as possible. I wait an hour before buffing. I have had the best results with an Autopia Concours Buffing towel as it seems to cut the residue pretty easily but, any plush microfiber towel will probably work well. I generally wait 8-10 hours between layers so I can usually do 3 layers in a weekend which is pretty much the max that I do.

I maintain the finish with Sonus Car Wash and Sonus Acrylic Spritz and Sonus Acrylic Glanz for touchups.

So far I have not topped it with anthing else but, I do have UPP which I will probably try next detail.

hey Alfisti, is Reflections better than Megs NXT? i saw them at struass and its about the same price (cheaper i think) and was thining of getting either one, but then i didnt carry enough money...

tyltan- sorry for thread jacking.

I just finished the second coat of SG. You guys are right. Don't use too much of SG and spread it as thin as possible. I followed chml17l's method. I used the small spray bottle to spray SG on black pad with PC. It seem to spread the SG very thin but it's still there were some areas hard to take SG off. I will apply S100 tomorrow. Normally, how long do you have to wait to appy S100 after SG?

I still see some scratches under bright hallogen lights. I'll live with it. I will remove those scratches on my next detail.

Hopefully, S100 will make the black paint looks "wetter"
