Cordless Drills What the Heck????

I have a cordless Black and Decker drill that is about 6 years old....the other day I noticed that the batteries seemed to be going dead a bit faster than when it was newer...I also noticed that the charger light wasn't coming on so I need a charger as well

Thinking I will I need a new battery & charger... I had a look at the store and online...

If I take the cost of the replacement battery and charger and add a few bucks, I can get brand new drill with two batteries and all the new stuff....What the heck is that all about????

One new battery for this drill is $35.00...charge is $25.00

Thats the price we pay for cordless tools, after awhile the batteries just don't hold a charge.

You're lucky it was a B&D, I have had to purchase replacement bateries for Milwaukee cordless drills and they ran me over a $100 just for the battery :surrender

Now I'm on the fence post about buying the replacement stuff or just buy a new one

Just get a new one. It's likely that the battery technology is better now than when you bought that one and voltage is also up. A battery for my 10 year old 12V Craftsman was $60!!!! I paid $40 for a new 19.2V Kawasaki with two batts & charger.

I bought a RIDGID cordless drill a few years back and it came with 'Batteries for Life'. All I have to do is mail in the battery and they replace it free.

Now the drill was a bit more costly, but you get what you pay for. I dug it out a while back and after over 6 months of sitting, the battery still had plenty of charge. Good stuff!:rockon

I second that. Might as well buy a brand new one and the technology is probable better on the newer/upgraded ones.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal either. Depending on your budget that might be the way to go. Just deal with what you have for an extra week or two and buy something alot better. Haven't heard of "Free" replacement batteries. Not very knowledgable about the different brands of Wireless Powertools but might be something to consider if you think you would be happy with another brand.

I bought a RIDGID set of cordless tools for the same reason about a year ago ... lifetime warrantee including free batteries.

I bought a DeWalt and haven't had any problems in the 4 years I've been using it. I wish they garunteed free batteries for life though. That sounds like an awesome deal.
