Convertible Top To Detail

Coming up I have a convertible to detail for a customer. I was wondering how I go obout this. I have heard of Raggtopp but is that a cleaner or just a weather proofing (which I know you need) also what other products are there out there for this job? and last question can I wash the cloth top with SSS as long as i use a soft brush instead of a mf mitt so it dosent shed. Thanks for the help.

RaggTopp sells basically three products for convertible tops.

1. Top cleaner for either vinyl or cloth roofs
2. Protectant for vinyl roofs
3. Treatment for fabric roofs

I own all three products but have yet to use the fabric top treatment. The vinyl product is AWESOME though. For regular maintenance of my top I wash it with the rest of the car using PB's SS&S.

If the top you're working on is not stained then you could just clean it with SS&S. If it's stained then you should get a fabric cleaner like the RaggTopp or I think 303 makes a popular one as well.

If it's a vinyl top you should then protect it with a vinyl dressing like Ragg Top for vinyl, 303 Aerospace Protectant, or one of the Poorboy's products just to name a few popular choices. Make sure you buff off the dressing really well afterward with a towel or else it will run all over the car the next time it rains.

If this is a cloth top after cleaning you should protect it as well. 303 makes a popular fabric protectant, but I hear the Ragg Top one is really great.

I can't remember exactly which one, but one on-line vendor has a list of cars and if their top is vinyl or fabric in case you don't already know which material you're dealing with. I think it might be CMA, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else knows.

Here is my process for them and they come out looking new again..I am also assumeing you are talking about a material top

You can wash it with any good car soap like any other part of the car....then I use the Ragg Topp cleaner....spray on and with a real soft plastic brush and gently I work the cleaner to get all the junk out of the material, rinse off and move on also work in small areas at a time...Dry that off with your MF towels and let dry, while you do the rest of the car....then I use the brush attachment for my shop vac to suck up all the lint and anything else that is on the top,, this to me is the key point to making the top look great......Spray on the Ragg Topp protector let stand for a bit repeat the process.....it will leave a bit of film on the top....I use the shop vac and brush attachment to lift this and the top again looks new
