Consumer Reports annual auto issue is out. I have not always agreed with CR's rankings but this year's issue is something quite different.
It follows a new format by providing recommendations on specific criteria: cheap, high fuel economy, fun to drive, etc. by type (sedans, luxury, etc).
It no longer seem to dwell on some metric that is just their own weighting of factors and seem to find some criticism for Toyota can do no wrong.
Also, it seems to show some entry European cars (Mercedes, BMW, Audi) have met price parity with some domestics. The higher end domestics are creeping easily beyond $40K and even higher with options.
The benchmark sport sedan (BMX 328i) is actually reasonable without all the technology.
