Confused on 6inch velcro pad

OK I just got a new PC7424. I received the white pad and the 6inch Velcro plate with it. What am I supposed to use with this Velcro pad? I am looking to polish and wax very good paint and don’t need a huge variety of pads. I searched the threads and no one really states what the Velcro is used for? Do the bonnets clip over the Velcro? Can someone with experience please help me with this and give some guidance on what to purchase?

Most of the pads that you can purchase have velcro backing so that you can attach it to your backing plate.

I don't know if you can use the backing plate that comes with the PC can be used or not (i purchased one when I bought my first set of pads)
