comparing all detailing products...

ok, i know this might sound like a little too much, maybe even impossible...but

i was just thinking right now, what if there was a thread/list/whatever of all the detailing products and everyone voted for their favorite...

for example, if there was a thread called "glass cleaners" or "wheel cleaners"

and a specific amount of products were listed, let's say 20,

then everyone on this board voted for their favorite for that specific function...

after all the voting, in each individual thread, a new thread would be made listing the top 5-10 voted-for products for each different category

i know this would get a little messy in the polish area and maybe even wax/sealant because so many people have different opinions on how abrasive and how many oils polishes have and what sealants/waxes also act as polishes, etc..etc..

i'd love to see this happen, that way people new at detailing will be able to buy the 1st or 2nd ranked product from each category and get great results instead of trying out a bunch of different products...

personally, sometimes i have trouble when looking for the "best" pad or glass cleaner so this would be a very nice reference

anyway, probably a worthless thread here haha but just wanted to share...

I think the reviews section does this pretty well already. Plus, you can look at the Click and Brag threads to see what people like to use and whether they had any issues with any product.

What works best for one doesn't necessarily work best for others. I've tried plenty of products that were highly spoken of and I didn't like them.

Amen. There are so many products that work for one person but suck for another. I recently fell prey to all the hype on Z-16. Looks great the second day, hit some water and its a gonner! Yet lots of people say it lasts a long time... maybe on a garage queen.

There are a few products that are almost universally adored, but those can be found in the reviews. Unfortunately, you have to try it and if it doesn't work for you, trade it.

I hear ya. If the consensus was made up of pro detailers vs the mix of noobs and such on this board the decision to use or at least try a given product would be easier! Although you'd still have the different strokes for different folks axiom in the equation. :argue
