how do they stack up against each other...via rotary and same pad, passes, speeds....

has anyone done this comparison yet?

I am thinking about picking some up, but I have over 1/2 gal of HTEC still...should I wait til its gone?

Oh god it's no comparison. M105 does more cutting in 1/10 of the time...literally. I cut out a section of 1000 grit sand scratches in 14 seconds of working time.

It does leave a worse finish, but use it again on a white LC, and you've got way more cut than HTEC, with less gumming and spitting, with a better finish, in less time.

Just curious but what pad did you use it with? I found that it left an excellent finish with a purple wool pad, I was actually impressed that a compound with so much cut could leave such a great finish.

Meg's Burgundy wool cut pad. I'll have to try it with the LC Purple.

HTEC is good but seems to be more of a medium polish than an outright compound. It certainly won't remove 600 grit sanding marks.

The other question is whether anyone has done a 3m3000RC EC vs M105 comparison?

I did briefly. I have both 3m Extra Cut & Megs 105. I did a trunk, half with 3m and half with Megs 105 using meg's double sided wool/Hitachi rotary. The trunk was evenly swirled. It took 1 pass for the megs 105 to remove about 95% of the swirls and it took about 3 passes for the 3m to get the same result. In my experience, if you are trying to cut down on time, the megs 105 is a time saver by far.

I really appreciate these kind of side by side comparisons. Thanks for taking the time to do this. Hoping the M105 shows up tomorrow.

yeah I have mine on order right now...just the quart for starters...i really think i am going to regret not just springing for the gallon...lol

With a Meguiars yellow 8006 polishing pad, #105 will remove spider swirls from PPG Ceramiclear and leave a near LSP read finish.

Frankly, I was blown away by the nearly hologram free finish and high gloss for how well it cuts. All it took was 3M's Ultrafina to leave a pretty much flawless surface.

#105/UF:

On softer paints, you will probably need an intermediate polish before going with UF.

oh god, that's awesome scott. I never thought of using 105 with a polishing pad. I thought it needed at least burgundy or more aggressive to utilize the full potential.

M105 with a purple foamed wool pad on a rotary works wonders on rock hard BMW clear, and leaves a surprisingly good finish. I have not tried HTEC, but it's a favorite around here so I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinions.

I never saw any product that worked as fast as 105, I use it a lot with polishing foam pads too. But I used once on a black evo with soft clear... and it left nasty buffer marks. I wouldn't recomend using it on softer paint/clearr
