Collinite 476

I purchased Collinite 476 to use as a topper for Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealant. If I were to summarize the use of 476 in one word--it would be "workout." Applying with a foam pad took some effort and the real workout came with removal. Now, I must be fair and say that the conditions may have contributed to some of the effort--it was in the mid 40's and there was a good breeze. I did about half of the car using a yellow foam pad. I waxed one section at a time and then immediately removed with a MF towel. Removal required about 50% more effort than 3M show car paste wax.

I took a break after half the car was done. The car was now in some intermittent sun and it was a bit warmer. I switched to a Vicking foam applicator to give it a shot. I did not try it first since the can opening is small--so you can only get wax on part of the applicator. Using the Viking and maybe having the surface of the car a bit warmer seemed to improve the ease of application. The viking has a denser foam--so this helped.

Removal was about the same, but the key is to put a thin coat of 476 on. Now, while I did think that removal was a pain, it did leave me feeling that I had put something on the paint surface. The Collinite left a nice shine and left the surface very smooth. I used Collinite for it protective elements, so I cannot comment on that yet, but I was satisfied with the results. I came into this knowing that removal was going to be harder than some other waxes, so I can't complain. In the spring I will be trying some S100 or PS21, so I will get to see what both extremes are like.

I share your experience. collinite is tough is use, but is one of the most durable carnuba waxes on the market.......you will see!

I think that the 3M showcar paste wax gives a little more depth of color than Collinite, but it was hard to really tell. My wife was very impressed with the Collinite over the #20 on her Passat. I think the Collinite really added a lot to the #20--so I was happy. I look forward to seeing how it lasts--it's to snow tonight--so I got it on just in time!

I used Collinite about three and a half months ago (wife's car) and just had the opportunity this weekend to hand wash the car. Water still beaded nicely and I was pleased its durability. The Collinite did go over a coat of Meguiars #20. My comparison test was my car with a coat of #20 topped with a coat of 3M's Showcar paste wax. The hand washing of this vehicle resulted in little to no beading--the 3M wax and Meg's #20 were gone.

Both cars had a hard winter--plenty of ice, snow and salt. Both had only been through the same touchless car wash once. Was the hard buffing of the Collinte worth it--I would say yes.

I just had the opportunity to use S100 on my car. What a dream product--it is at the far end of the spretrum to Collinite in effort and ease of use. Thinking about using the Collinite again this spring and toping with S100. Should be a pretty durable combo.

Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who likes Collinte, so I am glad to see your report!

I guess I am just calused to using Collinite. I don't find it very difficult to remove !WHEN! doing a section at a time, but I ALWAYS do it in the garage with varying temps 40's to 90's and with MF!

I too Love the look and durability! I recently put Mother's Sealer/Glaze (all things!) on before 476 and had similar results to yours.

Thanks Chewy

I like Collinite and am impressed with its durability. Now, I am not sure how to gauge effort, but I would say that Collinite takes about twice the effort to remove than S100. I suspect that it will be easier with warmer weather and I again may have been putting the coat on a little thick. I think using the Viking foam pads allows for a thinner coat.

I used Mother's sealer and glaze a couple of years ago and liked the results. Why I have not used it again --well, I went on to try other things like Meg's #7, 3M IHG, etc. I am sure I have the bottle stored away, so I will be getting it out for the big Spring clean. I will try it with Collinite and then top with S100. Should be an awesome combo.

You know, I was just thinking... David B. had a post awhile ago about using a MF towel and his PC to remove wax/polish. Just thought that may be the way to remove Collinite. If I remember correctly, David just put the PC on top of an open MF towel and used low speeds. This techique would work great for large areas like roof and hood.

I use Collinite and have never had any problems removing it. You can't let it dry or haze or its a pita to remove. If you get it on too thick and let it dry.....good luck! I get a beautiful deep shine that lasts and lasts and lasts. BTW I use Collinite 915.

I have a dark metallic green Accord. I tried IHG topped with Collinite 915 and then topped with S100 every month. It really looked "deep" and the shine lasted for 6 months (it would have gone longer but I tried BF with s100 topper for the winter).

I thought the IHG and the 915 were about equally difficult to use. BF1 and S100 were equally easy to use. All look great and since all look so well I have to give the edge to ease of use products.

If anyone wants to try the 915 I would be happy to send it to you for dirt cheap or swap it for something else to try out.

Another Collinite fan here. Mine is also beading well after more than 3 months, and that's winter exposure on a vehicle that's parked outside nearly 24/7. Beads so well I don't even bother with a QD. As jr_mints said, not letting it haze/dry really makes removal a breeze. The wipe-on-pause-wipe-off method does NOT seem to adversely affect durability compared to letting it fully haze. I even put it on the Volvo wagon's rubber bumpers and exterior black plastic! Worked great, no staining.

That said, honestly, I think the 3M paste LOOKS better, but it would take an Autopian to notice the difference. Different products for different applications. IMO, Collinite is the perfect family/friends wax due to its durability and the can't-help-but-notice beading.

Someone oughta take OutlawTitan up on his offer! If I didn't already have SO much too much...plus, I think my can of 476 will last several years.
