Cold Cold Cold

Here's another question, but on the flip side. What do you guys do when it's in the dead of winter, 5-20 degree weather? How do you wax your car? I ask this question especially to all the Zaino users.

Well if its that cold, I'll just let Zaino do the protecting over the winter without adding any more applications of the Z. I find the garage in 20 degree weather is actually around 30-40. For this winter, I plan on insulating my godparents garage doors and possibly add a heater.

I just found out that my garage door is insulated. I tried using a big kerosene heater last winter and it didn't do anything. I guess the whole garage, or atleast the cealing needs to be insulated to really feel a difference.

Before the cold water settles in, I do one last major exterior detail. I use AIO followed by Collinite Insulator Wax followed by Collinite Detergent Proof Paste Wax. I use AIO on the wheels and exterior trim and windows.

During the winter, I wash the wheels myself with rubber gloves and warm water with car wash soap.

I take the car to the car wash and tell them not to clean the wheels. The layers of Collinite protect my car from the "brushless" cleaning.

Luckily I have a garage to protect my car when it's not driven.

If your garage isn't insulated then are any attempts to heat it futile, just like trying to cool an un-insulated garage in the summer?

ahunt01- As I recall from another thread, you need to insulate that garage ;) But a heater SHOULD help. Space heaters blowing into temporary shelters made out of TARPS can create warm(er) areas on construction sites. Not sure why your heater didn't do anything for you. Anyhow..

I'd do a variation of Spilchy's suggestion. I've done this for family members who used "brushless" car washes. It lasted all winter and then some.

AIO followed by multiple coats of SG. As many as you can get on there. Then layer on Collinite 476S (yeah, that's the "detergent proof" one). Yeah, *I* believe it layers.

Well my kerosene heater is atleast 10 years old, maybe older. I have two, but I only used one. Maybe an electric heater would be better?

As I recall, when we used to use it in the house before we got our heat pump, it did not put out alot of heat even indoors. You had to be standing right next to it to feel any heat.

Sounds like that heater isn't too hot (ooh, lousy pun- honestly didn't occur to me until I keyed it in). The kerosene heaters *I'VE* used would burn your paint off if you got them too close to the car. Something's wrong with yours, even if it's working the way it's supposed to (like maybe it's just wimpy).

An electric one won't kill you with carbon monoxide....

Winter here ranges from 28F to 79F....and mostly it stays above 50F..so I have no problems......

SOrry....for our mild winters....

<scratches head> I'm still trying to figure out how this thread got created when the temp and humidity are both 90! ahunt01, you must have a serious commitment to long-term planning. :lol

Boredom lol, and I figured that if I knew what other people did that maybe I would have ample time to prep the garage to do the same. I'm counting the days until college starts again.

My Garage is insulated and I have a 220 Volt construction heater that will get the garage nice and warm if I leave it on long enough.

It uses a lot of electricity so I don't do this too often.

my buddy bought a 80,000 btu propane heater during this past winter so we could do our detailing...he has a non insulated 2.5 car garage and it warmed up a majority of it in 20 minutes...mind you this was during the illinois winters...darn cold....

Where do you get the water? My garage is insulated, and only 2 car, but never gets below 55 :bounce
