Closed hood like an Idiot, cracked paint.

I closed my hood incorrectly yesterday, the hood indented slightly. In the place were the indentation occurred, it appears that the paint did not bend with the metal, and their is now a small horizontal crack in the paint.

I do not care about the crack aesthetically, but i would like to make sure that the crack is sealed so that water or dust does not penetrate underneath the paint and cause further damage later.

What is an effective way to deal with this? Any products you would recommend? Ideally, I would like to just apply something to it that would harden and seal it.

used clear nail polish

Clear Nail Polish is pretty much the same as Clear Lacquer..

Alright, and lastly, should I expect to reapply this soon, or never again?

what was the lsp you were using before this happened? the newer type of coatings seem to be the best way to go.

If this area (and it appears that it is) is an area that is subject to a lot of vibration or force like when close the hood or trunk lid of a vehicle, then the paint that is cracked might start cracking further.

If the paint is healthy, not like 20 years + old, etc., and already sun burned, weathered, etc., then the clear over the paint break should help hold it down for a long time..

Depending on what color this is and how shiny it already is, the Clear Lacquer could be shinier on that line, so you would want to be very careful how you apply it so it blends in as well as possible..

Perhaps experiment on something a few times to get the hang of it...

What kind of car year, make, model, and what is the factory color called ??

I ask this because I want to be sure that if you have to wipe off and start over, you are not going to endanger the existing paint...

I'm pretty sure you cant possibly hurt it because if you use some form of clear lacquer, and about every kind of paint is not for decades, then it could be ok to remove and start over if the touch up goes not to your liking..
