Cleaning up my services

Lately I've been thinking a bit about reorganizing my services page, more precisely the Paint Correction & Maintenance page....

I'm thinking of possibly eliminating the Hand Wash and only offering it to interested regular clients. Another thing I'd like to do is eliminate the Stage II Correction. This way I'd end up with the Light Polish Detail, which is a 1-step polish to clean up some swirl marks, and then a new service (Paint Correction Detail, or something like that) that consists of 2 or more polishing steps. Currently Stage I Correction is a 2-step polish service, and Stage II is 3+. The idea is to have a light polishing service and then a correction service, where 2 or more steps are used. I'll leave the Concours, New car and all special services as is since I think they cover everything but aren't repetitive.

Thoughts, advice...

Thanks

Oh and also thinking about getting rid of the Basic Complete Detail as it's just the Basic Exterior Detail + interior, so I can offer those separately. This way there won't be any interior detailing in the "Paint Correction & Maintenance" section.

Ivan, that's very similar to how I recently reorganized my services and honestly I think it makes much more sense.

I broke my entire detail process down into 4 major points; 1) wash, 2) correction, 3) protection, 4) interior.

My offered "packages" are basically wash/protect (with a 1-step) or full-bore correction... with interior added if requested. There is a solid price on everything but an hourly charge on the correction portion.

So far my customers seem to be following the process and it has been working much easier in terms of estimating jobs.

Oh, and as far as eliminating the hand wash... I just price mine very high and offer a 50% discount to previous clients. ;)

todd i wouldn't mind checking out how you have your services setup. I'm trying to think of a way to just make it real simple with very minimal packages offered instead of having like 10 packages like some place.

Just a few that get to the point.

So you offer a couple basic things:

Stage 1 - PURIFICATION =

Stage 2 - CORRECTION =

Stage 3 - PROTECTION =

wasn't sure if i could post your prices so i got rid of that.

So as far as the exterior goes you can choose 1,2 or 3

or any combination of them?

Then you got your package a & b . . . . . . . does package a include paint correction for that low of a price? I just want to make sure i understand things correctly.

Site looks good by the way.

vtec, i'll describe how i market my services using those stages and how i came up with the pricing. any comments, questions, or concerns are welcome.

I used to only do complete details by individual estimate for each job. Because of this, I didn't list any pricing on my advertising or web site. What I found was a large number of people were calling me just price-shopping and when I explained to them my process and an "off my head" estimate they would immediately be turned away. People like "packages" because they want to see 1) an item/service and 2) how much it costs.

I decided I needed to change how I priced my services so I could offer a set price for the people that were looking for it. I sat down and put on paper what I do mentally when I estimate a job...

Wash = ~30 minutes

Wheels = ~5 minutes

Clay = ~20 minutes

Dry = ~5 minutes

Tape = ~5 minutes

Compound = ~2 hours

Polish = ~2 hours

etc...

What I found was if I broke my process up into the 4 main stages previously mentioned, 3 of them could be fairly consistent in their time. The only stage that wasn't 100% accurate when I estimate was the paint correction stage. So, if a wash and wax (stage 1/3) normally takes about the same amount of time every time I do the job, why couldn't I just put a single price on it?

That broke my services down to three main "packages"... 1) wash, 2) wash/wax, 3) wash/correction/wax. With the "correction" being the biggest variable, I left that as a "per hour" charge with the other stages static.

I have found that since changing my structure like this my customers have become a lot more secure on what they are looking for with my services. Those that are looking for a paint correction detail understand that prices start at $xxx.xx and go up according to polishing time. Those that just want a clean and protected car know they are not getting the full correction service, but are still getting a premium detail for a fair price.
