One of my biggest pains in detailing is detailing around the badges! What do you guys do in this area? do you tape these areas off (if so how)

I tried cleaning the badges with various different things but never was really happy with the results!

I removed mine!! :dj

I'm not one for removing the badges, so I'll throw out what I have found that works for me. I'll take some Detail Spray and a Q-tip, spray the badge with DS and use the Q-tip to get in and around all the areas that need to be cleaned. I usually do this before the initial wash, so I can be sure to try and remove all the stuff left in the emblem during the wash. After the wash or waxing or whatever, if you have some places that need to have wax removed, I have taken a toothpick (both by itself and sometimes covered with a MF) to remove in the tight spots. I know this isn't the most efficient or probably not the best way to go about this, but it does work for me. I have noticed no marring using this method. I have even tried to apply and remove wax using the Q-tip in places, but I have mixed feelings about that and I'm not all that sure it worked too well. There are other methods I'm sure. For instance, in my more uneducated days I used a "detailing" brush to remove things from the badging, but even then I noticed scratches. Maybe a soft toothbrush would work, but I'm not gonna try it out on my vehicle.

QD and a ton of Q-tips works well.

To speed that up a bit; and this may sound a little odd, find yourself a good high quality cosmetics store and look into some of their make-up brushes.

They are generally VERY soft, and come in several sizes.

My sister, who works for Estee' Lauder. suggested that Idea to me a while back.

Today, I use a $34 "blush" brush specifically for the emblems.

Works incredible!

BTW - the same type of brushes also work quite well for vents, cracks, etc.

I agree. I also have a cosmetics brush that I picked up one day thinking that it would work well, and it works great on my interior! Thanks for the tip though, I never thought about trying that technique on the ext.

After I finish with my LSP I usually take S&W, spray the emblems, then brush them with a detailing brush, then wipe everything away with a MF. Seems to work well.

I guess I'm still in the stone ages with my degreaser and toothbrush. especially out here we get alot of red dirt stuck around emblems and badges. Not to mention the rockerpanels..

I go to my local craft store to get my brushes. Every kind of brush you could imagine. i have also debadged my truck so it isnt a problem but not everybody has so I use a brush to clean off left over residue.
