Cleaning MF, Towels, and pads

I have done some searching for recommended cleaning of towels, pads, and MF towels. I found a little information, but thought I would resubmit the question. What does everyone use to clean as "bleach, tide, or etc". I have used Tide and a little bleach, but noticed that after 6 or so washes, everything is wearing thin.

I would like to get as much wax and containments out as possible without hurting anything.

Thanks for the response.

Cheers

I use Dawn to wash all my towels and MF towels.

For my rotary pads I usually just use a stiff brush and run it over the pad while the buffer is spinning to get everything off. I'll clean it in with water regularly though.

I'll take the pads and soak them in a bucket of warm water and Dawn soap. I'll then come and massage them and then rinse them out well. Stick them on the buffer and spin some water off and hang-dry.

I was the towels (by themselves) with plain liquid detergent on the gentle cycle. Let air dry. No problems. Add some Dawn or OXI-Clean (sp) for really soiled ones.

I saw in other posts that recommended Dawn and does it really work that well? That would be cheap.

Thanks

I've been doing my towels with it for awhile and it does a really good job.

Sometimes I use Dreft (I think that is the name) for my cotton towels. MF and Buffer Pads are always DAWN.

Possibly the bleach may be part of your problem.

Another vote for hand washing with Dawn to clean foam pads. Towels, including both cotton and MF, in the washing machine with whatever liquid laundry soap my wife has at the time. No fabric softeners or bleach.

In my case, using about 2/3 of the soap manufacturers recommended amount of soap still gets things clean. My thought was that it would be that much less to rinse out.:nixweiss

I don't get too fancy with the towel washing. I toss them into the washing machine, Normal cycle, light Tide, no bleach or softener, Extra Rinse setting. They go into the dryer at medium heat, no cling-free lint thingy. I've never had a problem.

Towels wear out. When they get a little funky, toss them and replace.

I clean my MF towels in the washing machine on gentle cycle, warm wash and rinse on a larger load cycle than required to allow a lot of water to swish around. I use a little Woolite. I do the same for my Pinnacle Koala towels and other cotton detail towels, seperate from the MF's. I air dry and then put them in the dryer on a fluff cycle (no heat) to "poof" back up. The Koala's and cotton towels I use light heat to dry.

For the PC pads, I let them soak in a bucket of Woolite. I gently wash by hand and rinse real well and let them air dry out of the sun. I spin them on the PC to get off as much water as possible.

Sometimes I get real anal and seperate anything that had wax or polish on it and wash them in a seperate load!

I need some suggestion for my waffleweave drying towel.

I just got new waffleweave towel and used once. Result was awesome but it got some dirt on it. I machined wash it but it didn't really come out. The stain is still there.

It's just new so I want to keep it like new. how can I make it clean now?

For applicators... I soak my wax and polishing pads in a 50/50 mix of water and P21S Total Auto Wash. This solution really seems to pull out residues and leaves the pads very clean with a little rinsing after the soak. I then let the pads air dry in a mesh bag.

For micro-fiber towels... After separating them by usage type, I machine wash them (by themselves) on delicate with ALL Free and Clear. I then throw them in the dryer for a few minutes on low heat. I take them out of the dryer when they are still slightly damp and let them air dry to finish.

The follow works for me. Just throw them into the washing machine but using less (half to ¾ amount) Tide liquid than usual. For pads or towels that are caked with dried up residues, I would soak them in dawn and warm water for a while and then try to flush off as much as possible before throwing them into the washing machine. I am using Matrix 100% cotton and the Pakshak towels and both seem to "behave" using this method. Since foam pads are usually quite small and easy to dry, I just hang them up something and let it dry naturally. Do feel the pads and towels after drying to make sure that they are soft and supple. If your fingers can feel some gritty stuff on any of your towels or pads, perhaps you can save them for washing the tires & wheels (a nice suggestion from another thread)?

Aloha!

Ditto on the extra rinse cycle - MFs work better "uncontaminated" and tend to hold soap easily, so I rinse mine an extra time.

Don't put Dawn (or anything that suds up) into your washing machine.....

DON'T PUT DWAN IN YOUR WASHING MACHINE. I used in once in my dishwasher when I ran out of dish soap. Oops! I learned my lesson!

ummm... what happened? I've been using dawn for a long time in my washing machine and have no problem at all.

All I remember is reading some thread about someone using Dawn in their washer and the suds overflowed everywhere (and I think he needed a new washer too)....

I put a small amount of Simple Green in a load once and had to stop it early when the suds finally creeped up to the basin lip!
